Campus Follies: Vegan Manly Man

Millions of people in the U.S. are abstaining from consuming animal products.  Although Americans cite a variety of motives for their dietary choices, the alleged egalitarian far-left claims that when making food selections, males perpetuate oppressive behaviors.

Mari Mycek, a sociology professor at North Carolina State University, recently published a study examining why men choose to follow veg*ism, which is defined as being vegan or vegetarian.  The instructor declares that such lifestyles “uphold gendered binaries” that perpetuate middle-class, white masculinity.

Mycek states that an individual’s choice to abstain from beef for logical rather than compassionate intentions further develops patriarchal societies.  She asserts that sensibility is traditionally coded as a boyish trait, whereas emotion is a female-dominated characteristic.

Her scientifically illiterate assumptions are degrading towards women.  Incidentally, the female mind is designed to weigh feelings and rationality more efficiently for sound assessments.

Brain Differences

As a college student studying neuroscience, my coursework has examined brain differences between the two sexes.  During one lecture, my instructor noted that males are often more emotional, at times behaving on impulse.  In contrast, he explained that ladies typically weigh their options before making a decision.

What is the culprit for the differences in behaviors?  Although the male brain is significantly larger, the female mind has a thicker corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve fibers connecting the two cerebral hemispheres.  This structure allows them to deliberate more economically.

Not only does the fact that numerous ladies pursue careers requiring logic and reasoning nullify Mycek’s assertions, but differences in physiology illustrate that the female brain is designed to carry out such skills efficiently.

Not an Original Idea

Mycek’s argument that diet and sexuality are correlated is not new to academia.  According to a study published in Taylor & Francis Online, a renowned academic journal, beef-consumption and “toxic masculinity” are purportedly directly correlated.  The researchers explained their conclusions:

“Women cook meat and reassure meat-eaters; men make rationality-based claims and demonstrate strength.”

Oh, the evils of rationality!  They continued that rejecting the “meat-masculinity complex” by adopting veg*ism allows males to overcome sexism and racism.

More Privilege?

However, men beware!  The “scientists” noted that when making food choices, gentlemen must tread lightly, as their financial ability permitting dietary variety is allegedly symptomatic of “white middle-class privilege.”  I suppose only white males are capable of affording a healthy lifestyle?

Perhaps these researchers deserve a lesson in statistics, as numerous citizens of all races ingest nutritious meals.  In fact, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Asian Americans have the lowest obesity rates, demonstrating financial stability to buy wholesome meals. With individuals increasingly abstaining from animal products, the far-left is attempting to construe such dietary choices for political gain.  Their corruption of appropriate experimentation is nothing short of revolting.

What are the thoughts of our readers?  Is a veg*ism sincerely indicative of white privilege?
