Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron fined Donald Trump $364 million in the New York civil fraud case on Friday, February 16. The former president and businessman, who made his name in New York City, has already separately appealed Engoron’s ruling that found him liable for fraud and canceled his business certificates, though that last part has been paused pending the results of the appeal. Trump has 30 days to either pay the fine or secure an appeals bond.
New York Attorney General Letitia James sued the former president last year, alleging “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation” regarding financial statements, as Liberty Nation reported in September.
If Trump’s appeal fails, he could lose control over his New York properties, including Trump Tower. Engoron’s decision brings to a close a three-month-long civil trail and is the second multi-million-dollar civil payout the businessman was ordered to make this year.
