Race for the White House – Rasmussen: Near Tie

The folks who got it right last time reveal a neck-and-neck race is shaping up.

Politicos of every stripe will tell you that ultimately party conventions don’t amount to much when it comes to election day. Sure, there will be bumps and perhaps even a hill or two to climb, but in the grand scheme of things, party conventions are for the faithful. So make of this what you will, but Rasmussen Reports weekly White House Watch poll shows a neck-and-neck race between President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

Show Me The Numbers

Liberty Nation has been tracking this poll every week since its inception because Rasmussen sports a balanced methodology. Thus far, Mr. Biden has led Trump in the race for the White House. This week Biden comes in at 46% and Trump at 45%. Another 6% say they prefer someone else, and 4% are undecided.

Just a week ago, it was Biden 48% to Trump’s 44%. In the increasingly crucial female gender crosstab, Trump came in with 41% and the former vice president with 48%. That’s a negligible difference from last week when the women’s vote stood at 42% Trump to Biden’s 49%. It is a bit surprising, considering all the women who took the RNC stage this week, that the president did not have a stronger showing with females. But perhaps women are slow to change their minds when it comes to choosing a candidate.

Where the president appeared to make inroads is in the black demographic. He moved from 26% last week to 29% this week – a high number for a Republican candidate. Still, this is a wavering statistic – at one point, Mr. Trump polled as high as 30% with blacks. This fluctuation could signal his support in the black community is tenuous.

Surprises Galore

In terms of the 65 and over age demographic, Biden holds a commanding nine-point lead over the president. Both men polled at 42% in the 18-39 age group. That younger people appear to be finding President Trump more favorable that seniors is more than a bit surprising. And despite both parties holding national conventions and commandeering a fair amount of television airtime, the needle has not moved among the undecideds. Those who can’t seem to make up their mind between the two men just haven’t changed all that much, according to White House Watch.

Another head-scratcher is the daily presidential tracking poll, which Liberty Nation has been sponsoring these past few weeks. Before the Republican National Convention, presidential approval was in the low 50s, but all this week, he’s hovered in the high 40s and stands at 47% today.

While some of these polling statistics appear to be mystifying, we are still nowhere near the homestretch regarding this race for the White House. As Americans continue to make their decisions, Liberty Nation is committed to bringing you the most accurate information available.
