Desiree Fairouz getting in Condi Rice’s face in 2007.

The left sure loves their false outrage, don’t they? The establishment media – AKA the left’s propaganda arm – simply cannot resist the temptation to turn a story about nothing into a national crusade.

Enter Desiree Fairooz, a leftist Code Pink activist. In May, she was convicted of two misdemeanors for disrupting the confirmation hearing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Naturally, the left lost their collective minds, and the media went into overdrive to paint the conviction a gross miscarriage of justice. Take a look at the following headlines from liberal news organizations:

Mother Jones: “Woman Convicted for Laughing During Jeff Sessions’ Confirmation Hearing”

Huffington Post: “Jury Convicts Woman Who Laughed At Jeff Sessions During Senate Hearing”

Salon: “A Jury Just Convicted a Woman for Laughing at Jeff Sessions

NBC News: “Activist Faces Jail Time for Laughing During Sessions Hearing”

Isn’t this just horrendous? One has to question the type of country we live in when the police can arrest someone just for laughing. Here’s the problem: while the laughter did play a part in Fairooz’s arrest, it was not the reason the jury decided to convict her. After she intentionally disrupted the hearing, law enforcement asked her to leave. As they led her out of the courtroom, she escalated the disturbance further. The Washington Times reports:

The Code Pink demonstrator also caused a scene when law enforcement officials escorted her from the chamber, which earned her a second misdemeanor for, “allegedly parading, demonstrating or picketing within a Capitol.”

If Fairooz had only left when law enforcement approached her, there would have been no arrest or conviction. In a conversation with the Huffington Post, one of the jurors stated: “She did not get convicted for laughing. It was her actions as she was being asked to leave.” Other jurors in the case also insisted that they did not condemn her for laughing; they made their decision based on her behavior afterward.

The left’s attempts to paint Fairooz as a victim is absurd – it is evident she knew what she was doing.  Desiree Fairooz been down this road before and got in trouble for disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer. This time, Fairooz could face a sentence of up to a year in jail along with $2,000 in fines.

This story is one in a long list of examples showing the establishment media’s biased reporting. If we were to put the shoe on the other foot, and a conservative disrupted a liberal cabinet member’s confirmation hearing, the press would smear this person. Unfortunately, the left has been utterly dishonest when it comes to stories such as these – yet they wonder why people accuse them of publishing fake news.
