It looks like actor Tim Allen is on the hot seat. After he had discussed the bullying that Hollywood conservatives receive in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, he became an instant target of the left.
In an appearance on Kimmel’s show, Allen discussed Hollywood’s treatment of conservative actors. He criticized their lack of tolerance for those who have differing political views. He said:
You’ve gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes. This is like ’30s Germany. I don’t know what happened.
Predictably, Allen’s comments were not welcomed by all parties. The Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect couldn’t wait to excoriate Allen for his comments — they demanded an apology from the actor. Executive Director, Steven Goldstein, made the following statement regarding Allen, according to USA Today:
“No one in Hollywood today is subjecting you or anyone else to what the Nazis imposed on Jews in the 1930s,” Goldstein’s statement continued, “the world’s most evil program of dehumanization, imprisonment and mass brutality, implemented by an entire national government, as the prelude for the genocide of nearly an entire people. Sorry, Tim, that’s just not the same as getting turned down for a movie role. It’s time for you to leave your bubble to apologize to the Jewish people and, to be sure, the other peoples also targeted by the Nazis.”
Wow. Pretty harsh, right? It seems Mr. Goldstein has never heard of hyperbole. Naturally, this is not the first-time Goldstein has attacked a conservative. Goldstein also criticized President Donald Trump for his remarks on anti-Semitism.
In the past election season, we have heard numerous comparisons to fascism, Nazi Germany, and Adolph Hitler bandied about by people on both the left and the right. It seems that accusations of fascism are par for the course in this political climate. As a matter of fact, there have been several instances when the left has drawn comparisons between conservatives and Nazism.
The Blaze has discussed some of the more egregious accusations of fascism leveled against the right:
To wit, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said that when Trump intoned “America first” during his inauguration speech Friday, it had a “Hitlerian background to it.”
And an angry Ashley Judd delivered a poem of sorts the next day at the Women’s March that reached similar conclusions: “I didn’t know devils could be resurrected, but I feel Hitler in these streets! A mustache traded for a toupee! Nazis renamed the Cabinet! Electro-conversion therapy, the new gas chamber shaming the gay out of America, turning rainbows into suicide notes!
As much as we would love to forget Ashley Judd’s speech at the Women’s March, we can’t. That level of openly coming unhinged cannot easily be forgotten. And what exactly is a “Hitlerian background” anyway? It seems that every time President Trump sneezes, the left rushes to compare him to Hitler.
“Comedienne” Sarah Silverman also joined in on the fun. The Washington Times discusses her foray into the world of false fascism accusations:
She then outlined her preferred scenario for the violent overthrow of the legitimately elected government, still in all capital letters.
“Once the military is w us fascists get overthrown. Mad king & his handlers go bye bye,” Ms. Silverman posted.
So how has the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect handled these types of comparisons to Nazi Germany? What statements has Mr. Goldstein issued in response to these false characterizations?
None. Total silence.
Goldstein and the organization he represents had nothing to say about these statements. This is curious when you consider how the organization brands itself:
Through educational programs and grassroots organizing, the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect calls out prejudice, counters discrimination and advocates for the kinder and fairer world of which Anne Frank dreamed.
Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect is a progressive voice for social justice, fighting hatred of refugees and immigrants, Antisemitism, sexism, racism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, bias against the differently abled and any other hate that runs counter to American promise of freedom.
Even though the organization is named after one of the most revered figures in modern history, they are nothing more than a self-righteous gaggle of leftist social justice warriors. They are not interested in tolerance; indeed, their objective is only to propagate the leftist narrative.
It is obvious to anyone with a modicum of common sense that Tim Allen was not saying that being a conservative in Hollywood is like being Jewish in Nazi Germany. He was commenting on Hollywood’s propensity for marginalizing conservatives in the industry. Of course, Goldstein knows this. His statements were just another way to divert from Allen’s point.
This is what the left does best. Instead of arguing about the issues, they simply vilify the other side. Because they are slow learners, they haven’t yet realized that this method is no longer effective. By using Allen’s comments as an opportunity to engage in this asinine display of virtue signaling, the left is showing that they are out of touch with ordinary Americans who understand hyperbole when they see it. If the so-called “resistance” continues with this type of behavior, they will continue to alienate themselves from rank and file Americans, which means they will keep losing elections.
Let’s hope they don’t stop.
