The commander-in-chief’s son, Hunter Biden, has yet to be charged with a crime. Has he committed one or more? That, we do not yet know. Still, the Justice Department’s now five-year-long investigation of his tax affairs and business activities continues. The House Committee on Oversight and Reform, under the chairmanship of James Comer (R-KY), has waded through thousands of financial records and other documents – many from Hunter’s infamous laptop – that reveal a complicated network of shell companies created by or on behalf of at least nine members of the Biden family. These LLCs have received payments from multiple countries – for what, exactly, it is unclear, in many cases. And, to top it all off (so far), the mother of one of Hunter’s children is accusing him of falsely pleading poverty to reduce his child support payments. It’s a true crime thriller and a soap opera rolled into one – and it is playing out on the national stage, despite the left-wing media’s best efforts to ignore it all.
Can Hunter Biden Skate?
Most recently, attorneys for Hunter Biden met with Justice Department officials. As liberal legal scholar Alan Dershowitz observed, the meeting indicates that the younger Biden’s team is willing to negotiate a way out of an indictment. That would appear to make sense since the last thing Joe Biden needs is to be campaigning for a second White House term under the looming threat of serious criminal charges – that may well connect to him – being brought against his son.
How willing are DOJ investigators to make this all go away before the next primary season kicks off in earnest? Is that even possible, given the Oversight Committee’s expanding probe? These questions may not be answered for months.
At a recent press conference, Rep. Comer provided an update on his committee’s investigation of the Bidens. “What we found are business plans aimed at targets around the world, based on influence peddling,” he announced, “including with people closely tied to foreign governments like China and Russia.” Despite Joe Biden’s claims that he had no knowledge of - or involvement in - his son’s business dealings, the Oversight Committee has amassed considerable evidence to the contrary.
A report produced by House Republicans said in part:
“The Department of Treasury is in possession of at least 150 Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) related to Biden family members’ financial transactions. Despite numerous formal requests by Committee Republicans to review those SARs, and despite decades of precedent of Treasury making SARs available pursuant to congressional requests, the Biden Administration changed longstanding policy and now refuses to produce Biden family SARs or to make them available for Committee Republican investigators’ in camera review.”
Banks are required to file SARs with the Treasury Department to flag unusual financial transactions or those suspected of being connected to money laundering or fraud. “One SAR generated by an American bank and the Treasury Department connects Hunter Biden and his business associates to international human trafficking, among other illegal activities,” Comer stated at the same press conference.

Comer’s accusations against the Biden family include “planning to sell one of the largest sources of cobalt for electric vehicles in the world to the Chinese, for example.” He later pointed out, “One of these [Biden family] deals involve the sale of American natural gas to China. Evidence suggests Joe Biden had a ten percent equity stake through his son.” Comer showed a PowerPoint presentation – in Chinese – from Hunter Biden’s laptop. One of the slides displayed at the press conference showed a map of shale deposits across the lower 48 US states. “Hunter Biden and Joe Biden were involved in a scheme to try to get China to buy liquified natural gas,” Comer explained, “and – from a whistleblower – to try to get their foot in the door with China starting to purchase an interest in natural gas drillers.”
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is in hot water after it was revealed that, while advising the 2020 Biden campaign on foreign policy, he was directly involved in an effort to kill the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Then there’s Lunden Roberts, the mother of Hunter Biden’s four-year-old daughter. Roberts filed a brief with a court in Arkansas on April 27 as part of an ongoing child support case. In part, the brief said, "Mr. Biden claims to be nothing more than a Yale-educated attorney/artist who is somewhat financially destitute and needs his child support adjusted. However, for an artist living on meager means, Mr. Biden is living lavishly." The brief makes reference to Biden’s legal team, which it described as comprising "some of the most expensive attorneys on planet Earth." Hunter Biden will appear at the court for a hearing on May 1.
This would be a good time to remember that former President Donald Trump was impeached for allegedly suggesting to the president of Ukraine that he investigate corruption involving the Biden family. The establishment media – the same outlets that claimed the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation – devoted endless hours and column inches to that phone call between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky. Now they are standing, metaphorically, on the deck of the Titanic, insisting there are no icebergs in sight.
If these media outlets fail to show any journalistic curiosity about the Biden family business activities and it turns out that, in fact, crimes were committed, it will surely be the final nail in the coffin of their already deteriorating credibility. Worse, they will have thrown it all away to protect a man most Americans hoped would not even run for re-election.
