Open Borders America: Fraud in Biden’s Migrant Parole Program

Plus, NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ sanctuary city is all out of room.

President Joe Biden’s parole program, which flies migrants into the US from four different countries, has been put on hold while it’s being investigated for fraud. The CHNV (Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, Venezuela) program grants migrants from those four countries a somewhat fast-tracked trip into the United States and has generated a lot of controversy. Those opposed worry that the migrants are not being vetted thoroughly enough, and a new report from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has just confirmed those fears.

Rife With Fraud

Border agents have their hands full with record numbers of illegal immigrants, so it’s no wonder they haven’t had time to sit down and check the documentation the foreigners provide. Unfortunately, that has made plenty of room for fraud. The USCIS report shows there are hundreds, if not thousands, of instances of records that don’t match. The Federation for American Immigration Reform – FAIR for short – detailed some of the ways migrants gamed the system in an exclusive report:

Multiple Use of IP Addresses

IP addresses can determine where a computer is located. The report found that 100 IP addresses accounted for 51,133 applicants. “In one example,” FAIR explained, “an IP address located in Tijuana, Mexico was used 1,328 times. The report states that, on average, each IP address associated with these programs submitted 2.2 application forms.”

Social Security Numbers

Many migrants used the same social security numbers. According to the report, 100,948 forms had been filed by 3,218 different sponsors, and “24 of the 1,000 most used sponsor SSNs belonged to a deceased individual.” Furthermore, sponsors who help support the immigrants are supposed to disclose their incomes. Many, however, did not provide the information. Of those who did, their incomes “often [did] not meet the financial threshold to support the number of parolees they intend to sponsor.” There were also a lot of fraudulent numbers, with instances of migrants using things like “‘111111111’ or ‘123456789’ or ‘666666666’ – proving that fraudulent data was being brazenly provided to the government.”

Phone Numbers and Zip Codes

The internal report found that the same phone numbers were used on multiple application forms. According to the review, “one sponsor phone number was reported on over 2,000 forms submitted by 200 different sponsors,” and, “one parolee phone number was reported on 626 different forms and was associated with 238 different parolee last names and 142 different parolee addresses.”

New Banner - This Week in Open Borders AmericaAfter searching the US Postal Service database, the Department of Homeland Security found that 465 of the submitted zip codes did not exist.

There are several more examples – such as changing names, gender, and age – but the point is that, thanks to the parole program, there are thousands of illegal migrants in the country who committed fraud to get here.

No Vacancy for Migrants in the Big Apple

In January, New York City filed a lawsuit against 17 Texas charter bus companies, claiming they were breaking the state’s law by transporting migrants to the Big Apple without paying for any of their needs. The New York Supreme Court, however, ruled otherwise.

According to the suit, the law requires anyone who “knowingly brings, or causes to be brought, a needy person from out of state into this state for the purpose of making him a public charge” to “convey such person out of state or support him at his own expense.” NYC asked for more than $700 million to cover expenses.

Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has been struggling with ways to find care for all the illegal migrants being bused into his sanctuary city. He converted 15% of hotel rooms into housing areas for the undocumented. He tried sending them to Canada only to have officials demand he stop, he has even housed some in police stations. Last month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed the Lone Star State had sent more than 45,900 asylum seekers to the Big Apple as well as more than 36,900 to Chicago and 19,200 to Denver. NYC has seen over 210,000 migrants since 2022 and currently has more than 64,300 in its shelter system.

Notable Quotes

When the  New York Supreme Court ruled in favor of the charter buses bringing migrants to the city, Gov. Abbott took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted:

“Another WIN! The New York Supreme Court REJECTED Mayor Adams’ attempt to block Texas from busing migrants to this sanctuary city. Until the Biden-Harris Administration secures the border, Texas will continue to send migrants to sanctuary cities.”

What will next week bring us in Open Borders America?
