There is nothing more insidious in American politics than the professional progressive race hustler. This type of person enjoys figuring out new and innovative ways to foment racial tensions. Their purpose is division, and their bread and butter is racism, racism, and more racism – and there are few better examples than Nikole Hannah-Jones, founder of the 1619 Project. Indeed, over the past few years, she has established herself as a top performer in the world of professional race hustling, and a look at her behavior provides some keen insight into how it’s done.
Hannah-Jones consistently follows the first, and arguably the most important, rule of race-baiting: Inject race into everything. Yes, everything. Let’s look at her take on the practice of tipping servers at restaurants, for example. She wrote:
“Tipping is a legacy of slavery and if it’s not optional then it shouldn’t be a tip but simply included in the bill. Have you ever stopped to think why we tip, like why tipping is a practice in the US and almost nowhere else?”
Hannah-Jones’ race-baiting tweet was in response to a post from former MSNBC host Touré Neblett, who also criticized tipping. Even though she deleted the original post, she continued pretending tipping and slavery were somehow related. “After slavery, forcing Black people to work service jobs for tips was a way for white employers not to pay for Black labor,” she wrote. “Now, waiters remain the employees today who earn less than minimum wage.”
In another tweet, the author explained that she usually leaves tips, but when she doesn’t, she leaves a note explaining why. “[B]ut telling Black people that we should tip regardless of quality of service when we know we too often do not get high-quality services is asinine to me,” she added.
Criticizing tipping because it allegedly has racist roots is quite an interesting flex for someone like Hannah-Jones. This is especially true because her ilk does not denigrate gun control laws despite the fact that they were originally created to disarm blacks in America. So it seems these figures are rather selective in their outrage when it comes to historical racism.
But that’s not all, folks.
The next rule for the aspiring race hustler is to make the absolute most absurd race-related statements you can think of, especially if they are anti-white. In fact, the more denigrating toward white folks, the better. For example, Hannah-Jones knocked it out of the park when she took to Twitter to claim Europe is not a continent while discussing the Ukraine/Russia conflict. That’s right, folks, she went after a “white” continent.
“What if I told you Europe is not a continent by defintion [sic], but a geopolitical fiction to separate it from Asia and so the alarm about a European, or civilized, or First World nation being invaded is a dog whistle to tell us we should care because they are like us?” Jones asked.

Unfortunately, Hannah-Jones appears not to know that Europe is indeed a continent. While it is a part of Eurasia, the Ural Mountains, among other geographical features, separate the landmass from Asia. Geographers consider it to be a continent because of its sheer size. But apparently, the world of geography is racist, so their opinions should not matter.
Last, but most certainly not least, the professional race-baiter always keeps up with current events so he or she doesn’t miss an opportunity to say, “that’s racist!” Hannah-Jones put on a clinic about this rule when she posted yet another tweet claiming the war in Ukraine was only getting attention because it’s a conflict between the melanin deficient.
The author retweeted a post arguing the “supremacy around the media coverage of [the war] isn’t even subtle,” also including a clip of a report discussing the “prosperous middle class” in Ukraine who are trying to escape by train. She went on, saying people “should care about Ukraine,” but not “because it is European, or the people appear white, or they are ‘civilized’ and not ‘impoverished.’”
To sum it all up, if you want to be a professional progressive race hustler, your focus should constantly be on skin color and ways to persuade the American public to believe anyone who is not white is oppressed by the system. If you adhere to these rules, then you could have a long and lucrative career in left-wing politics.
