President Donald Trump has arrived in London. Liberty Nation is on the ground bringing you live updates of everything that’s happening.
UPDATE: The pro-Trump rally and march starts tomorrow. Liberty Nation will be bringing you coverage and interviews throughout the day… Protesters from today’s event stated that they will be at the pro-Trump march with the intent to disrupt. Flyers letting anti-Trumpers know where the rally takes were being handed out.
UPDATE: The anti-Trump protest has essentially finished. A few hundred people hanging around; signs litter the floor.
UPDATE: Leaving Trafalgar Square behind, we walk back through the protest area past Downing Street. There we encounter a second blockade of Pro-Trump, Pro-Tommy Robinson protestors, who seem happy enough to cornered inside a pub. There are only around 10 or so Tommy supporters, and seem to be members of the same group witnessed earlier in the day. The establishment is surrounded by a group of around a hundred anti-Trump protestors shouting, as well as a police guard, including mounted officers.
After some time, the pro-Tommy group are escorted from the building, while followed by anti-Trump protestors yelling “Nazi Scum.” It should be noted that a small group of Trump supporters were left unmolested at the Womens’ March event earlier, but the Pro-Tommy ones receive much more abuse – this could be due to a combination of their association with the controversial figure and their more assertive behavior.
UPDATE: At Trafalgar Square, the main rally for the day takes place. Crowd estimates of between 10 and 15 thousand people. A lot of wanderers with no real cohesion other than to be out enjoying the protest, and some more hardcore protesters with banners and signs, many with obscene messages. This event is larger than the Trump Baby blimp and Women’s March that took place earlier in the day.
There is a wide range of people in attendance at the Trafalgar Square portion of the day. Young and old.
UPDATE: 6 PM GMT time: Although Fox News and other American outlets are reporting tens of thousands of anti-Trump protesters, we have this from our Correspondent Laura Valkovic who is on the ground in London:
“We don’t think tens of thousands, maybe around 10K total so far. There is increasing antagonism between pro-Tommy Robinson protestors and anti-Trump protestors. Someone got punched but overall no serious violence yet, just shouting and chanting. A police line is dividing the two crowds and they have ordered surrounding pubs to close.
As of 2 PM London time our man Mark Angelides with a report:
Almost as much media as people protesting our president:
Where’s the Beef? Is this all they’ve got for protesters?
But Old Glory is drawing a crowd…
Today, Friday 13th, it is the turn of the anti-Trump brigade to make their feelings known. There will be three main protests throughout the day. The first involves the now infamous “Trump Baby” blimp, the second is a Women’s March thought to have around 10,000 attendees, and the final has been billed as having over 50,000 protesters from around the country gathering outside BBC headquarters.
The marches have been organized by the usual suspects including the Socialist Workers Party, various leftist groups, and naturally, the British version of the Democrats, the Labour Party.
Media representing China, Japan, Russia, European nations, and of course the majors from Britain are out in force. Some were sporting stickers stating “F*** Brexit.”
The blimp made it about 30ft off the ground. Not exactly in line with the media reports stating that the blimp is “flying over London.”
CBS reporter claiming to work with Samantha Bee speaking with the organizers.
The blimp is about to launch. A crowd is very small. More press than protesters.
The organizers are vetting who they will speak to. After showing press credentials, we were asked:
“Liberty Nation? That sounds a bit libertarian or wierdly far right.”
