The Culture of Death is about to run roughshod over Ireland and doctors in the overwhelmingly Catholic country are finding they are expected to participate in the slaughter.
Ireland amended its constitution in May to repeal all protections for the unborn. Legislation passed in the lower house of the nation’s parliament on December 5 would usher in an extreme liberalization that in essence would allow for the murder of unborn babies very late into pregnancies. Abortion would be legal for the usual weasel-worded “risk to the life, or of serious harm to the health, of the pregnant woman” up to viability, which is usually six months into a pregnancy. This will include “mental health” reasons as well, which effectively would give late-term abortionists carte blanche on the Emerald Isle.
Compelling Complicity
Another incredibly disturbing part of the legislation – which still needs to undergo consideration and approval in the upper house before it can be passed as law – is the complete lack of protection it provides to doctors, nurses and assorted hospital personnel who do not want to be part of the abortion process.
Irish Health Minister Simon Harris is pushing the legislation without even the slightest regard for health workers with moral objections to baby murder. The legislation has an opt-out option for doctors who do not want to perform abortions themselves, but it mandates that they then arrange the abortion with a doctor who will perform the grisly deed. Doctors who feel abortion is murder are thus forced to arrange the act under penalty of law.
According to The Irish Times, the legislation dictates that “a person who has a conscientious objection shall, as soon as may be, make such arrangements for the transfer of care of the pregnant woman concerned as may be necessary to enable the woman to avail of the termination of pregnancy concerned.”
Harris has said doctors who opt out must follow this protocol. “If you are saying to me that a woman who goes to her GP in crisis; looking for help and looking for a service that is legally available in our country and that that woman should be shown the door or given the cold shoulder that is not conscientious objection.”
According to the health minister of Ireland, conscientious objection does not mean you have a right not to be involved in the procurement of abortion; it only means you don’t actually have to be the hands that personally rip a living human being out of its mother’s womb.
Some 500 nurses and midwives of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland say Harris has refused to even meet with them to discuss their objections to being a party to abortion.
Grim Portents
Harris is the perfect apparatchik for the modernist culture that oppresses its own people in the name of “tolerance.” And if you don’t think it can happen here, open your eyes, because it already is. On Dec. 6 a Christian teacher at a Virginia high school was fired because he refused to go along with the PC insanity of calling a “transgender” student by the preferred gender pronouns. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports the West Point School Board voted unanimously to terminate Peter Vlaming, who had taught at West Point High School for almost seven years, for refusing to follow its “nondiscrimination” policies.
Vlaming’s lawyer Shawn Voyles wondered where the concern was for the teacher’s constitutional rights. “One of those rights that is not curtailed is to be free from being compelled to speak something that violates your conscience,” Voyles said. 
Vlaming lamented that he lost his job for sharing views held by “most of the world for most of human history.”
“That is not tolerance,” Vlaming said. “That is coercion.” Yes, it is. And that is the plan. It is not enough that our elitist overlords implement their new social regime. The subjugated citizens must be made to publicly acknowledge and accept it. Whether it is complicity in child murder in Ireland or mental illness in Virginia, those who do not go along will be hounded out of public life. And it’s all done in the name of “diversity” and “inclusion.”
If this ugly trend continues, and there is no reason to believe it won’t, people who hold the traditional values that were the glue of Western Civilization for centuries are eventually going to be forced to decide in their own lives how much of their personal conscience they can agree to compromise in order just to make a living.
