Here’s another story that blows up the gun control movement’s argument on mass shootings. Recently, a 19-year-old student walked into Dixon High School in Illinois with a firearm to carry out an attack similar to what happened in Parkland, Florida.
What happened next is an example of why an armed individual is more effective at preventing mass shootings than additional legislation. This is an inconvenient story for those on the left who argue that a good guy with a gun isn’t a viable solution for mass shootings.
School Resource Officer Stops a Mass Shooter
The shooting occurred in the school’s gym during a graduation rehearsal. Resource officer Mark Dallas faced off with the gunman and returned fire. According to City Administrator Danny Langloss, “the officer was not injured, nor was anyone else.” He added, “We’re lucky the officer was there. His brave actions saved a lot of lives.”
The shooter was shot twice by the resource officer but is expected to survive. His name has not yet been released.
Who Is the Shooter?
The suspect has been identified as a student who was enrolled at the school and working out of the principal’s office. According to his mother, he was a troubled person. She stated that he had been “very sad” for a long time. He experienced bullying and was something of an outcast.
The student was supposed to attend the graduation rehearsal, but when he showed up, he brought his weapon with him. His mother said that she does not keep guns in her home and does not know how he obtained the weapon.
The Gun Control Lobby Is Proven Wrong Again
This is not the first time a resource officer has stopped a mass shooting. Earlier this year, a student entered a high school in Maryland and shot four students. The officer on duty confronted the shooter and prevented him from causing additional carnage.
Unfortunately, one of the students died, but if the officer had not been present, it is likely that many more people would have lost their lives. This story is one of many examples of armed individuals using their firearms to save lives.
The left constantly argues against practical solutions like deploying armed security at our schools. They also ignore the fact that our current gun laws are not being adequately enforced. There is a reason for this: Their objective is to limit access to firearms.
Incidents like the school shooting in Illinois poke massive holes in the gun control lobby’s arguments. Here’s the bottom line: there aren’t many new gun laws that can decrease mass shooting deaths. The fact remains that additional security measures — not legislation — are the best way to save lives.
