HollyWeird: Disney’s Diversity Plans – All for the Money?

How is the entertainment company going to make up for lost revenue?

Editor’s Note: Whether on screen or off, Hollywood can always be counted on to keep us entertained. This is especially true when it comes to politics. Liberty Nation’s Hollyweird column shines the spotlight on Tinseltown’s A-listers and their wild and wacky takes on today’s current events.

Disney is struggling to rebuild its reputation and revenue. As LN National Correspondent Sarah Cowgill reported, the Magic Kingdom is now the “loneliest place on Earth” as fewer guests visit the theme parks. The company stuck its neck out and took a stand against Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which isn’t so much anti-gay propaganda as a protection against progressive indoctrination in schools, and that certainly hasn’t helped the Disney brand. Now, according to an insider, Disney’s diversity plans for its movies and television shows are allegedly more about bringing in the dough than being socially conscious, especially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Truth Behind Disney’s Diversity?

An alleged insider said Disney is not about representing diversity as the company portrays, but rather about trying to make up for the lost sales after China banned Marvel films, according to That Park Place, a website about theme parks. In fact, all four of the MCU 2021 films were excluded from showing, including Black Widow, Eternals, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“Marvel is dead in China,” the source announced. “The Chinese government wants to play hardball, wants to cut off the MCU from their box office … it’s all politics and propaganda.” Disney tried to appease the communist country by censoring some of its movies. However, that backfired when fans criticized how John Boyega was removed from advertisements for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

So, the next natural step would be to search out different markets, right? Apparently, Disney’s plans do not include white males and Christians, since the company feels those fans will remain loyal. “They’re trying to create a new Marvel market for neo feminist women,” the source said. “We’re trying to grow in every direction all at once.” This, the insider explained, is where She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel come in to play. “They already have the white market, the Christian market, the moderates market…They want minority Disney+ ratios up. They want single women merch sales up.”

Not everyone is enamored with Disney’s changes, however. Some of the new movies and remakes coming out in the next couple of years have fans and critics outraged. The Little Mermaid, for example, has fans fired up, as the previously white Ariel will now be played by Halle Bailey. This doesn’t seem to be about the actress, so much as the blatant political decision behind the casting.

In Captain America: New World Order, Israeli superhero Sabra (aka Ruth Bat-Seraph), played by Israeli actress Shira Hass, is introduced. In the comics, she’s a Mossad agent and police officer who has superhuman strength and stamina. Her costume has the blue Star of David displayed on Israel’s national flag. However, some have associated the character’s name with the Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982 in Beirut, which left thousands of refugees dead. Arabs have expressed concern this will reinforce negative stereotypes; others are excited to see a Jewish hero added to the bunch. This fourth installment of the Captain America franchise is scheduled to be released in 2024.

And now some are concerned about Harry Styles’ character Eros from the Eternals. Even Eros’ creator, Jim Starlin, expressed some of the character’s downfalls and how it would be difficult to fit into the movies: “Eros, on the other hand,” he said, “he’s an interesting one. I have no idea what they’re [Marvel] going to do with him. I sort of left him as a sociopath, and he is sort of a sexual predator.” Eros has the ability to make people desire each other, which is very disturbing to the woke crowd who were triggered by the prince kissing Sleeping Beauty to wake her from a magical sleep.

Disney used to be the go-to place for families. The movies were seen as safe for children – wholesome goodness. Now, the company is too involved in politics and political correctness, chasing away viewership and damaging the stellar reputation it had under Walt Disney’s supervision.

Tune in next time to see what else Tinseltown has planned.
