As the old saying goes, a Democrat’s desperate times call for equally desperate and ridiculous measures – or something like that. Such describes politics in the age of Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Presidential candidate Joe Biden babbled this week about running for the U.S. Senate. Then along came Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), upsetting the applecart once more, as he blathered praise for Fidel Castro during a Sunday morning news program – infuriating every Cuban-American in the nation.
The latter incident reignited the disgust of James Carville, who is now making the news talk show rounds denouncing, in his words, “the communist.” Even Chris Matthews of MSNBC begged for an intervention for his beloved Democratic Party. No one knows who struck the match – as the party elders seemed reluctant to do so themselves – but the number of lifelong Democrats fired up about getting rid of Bernie Sanders is growing.
Liberty Nation Washington Political Columnist Tim Donner issued a warning in a brilliant analysis this week: “If the established power bases in both parties don’t understand by now the seismic shift taking place right before their eyes, they never will.”

And that raises the question: Are the Democrats accepting such a shift and raising the white flag to Bernie? Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) appear to be surrendering to the Bern – as both have said they would support him if he wins the nomination.
At a time that allows no place to hide foibles, stumbles, and bumbles, heartlanders jumped online to discuss and dissect the tactics being used to topple Trump.
Thomas Heim of Indianapolis believes Bernie isn’t much of an American, lamenting: “This shows what the Democrats are willing to do to keep Trump from another four years. They are willing to sell this country to Communism.” From the other side of the city, Sandra Links offered her opinion on why the Dems seemed so eager to accept socialism: “Because they know that Trump can’t be beat, and they don’t want a Democrat to be embarrassed.”
After typing up a comment that fillets her own senator, Mitt Romney, Nancy Brandt from Cedar City made no bones in her assessment of the party leadership:
“Face it. Nancy Pelosi has been a Democratic socialist all along. She just had to hide it because she wanted to be speaker. But she knows her gig is up and so has decided to strip off the makeup and show her true self. San Francisco. Not very pretty, huh?”
When the likes of Carville and the party faithful in the media sound the alarm bells, one can only imagine the depth of the support – in private – they have in attempting to save their party from a progressive wing that is forcing its way to center stage. It seems strange to side with the folk who wanted bigger government and the Clintons back in the White House, but as poor a choice as President Hillary may have been for the United States, many maintain that she was a safer option than Sanders. And that’s apparently the thought that crossed the mind of North Chicago’s Will Showalter, who has the last word: “Bernie Sanders still has to dodge Hillary/Democratic Elites/Establishment obstacles before passing that finish line.”
