Straight Pride Parade Trolling

The internet appears to be having a crisis of confidence, and with it a partial meltdown over how to appropriately react to the news of the latest Straight Pride Parade taking place in Boston. Through the simple lens of identity politics, surely a parade celebrating heterosexuality would be an easy target to attack, but it appears that this is one of the year’s greatest trolling exercises … and it’s designed to sow confusion among the politically challenged.

Instead of making this an “anti” parade, the organizers have shifted the argument before it began and taken on a prominent gay man as the grand marshal to direct them. Self-confessed “internet villain” Milo Yiannopoulos will be leading the “oppressed majority,” with all the fanfare of floats, flags, and fun.

Whether this event, organized by the group Super Happy Fun America, will go ahead as planned is not yet known. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has indicated that as long as the paperwork is in order, he cannot and will not prevent the parade from going ahead – although he has so far refused to allow the flying of the Straight Pride flag above city hall.

What to Watch For

If this event goes ahead, be prepared for major protests trying to shut it down. It will likely be high comedy watching the protesters attempt to articulate quite what it is they are protesting.

An Uncomfortable Alliance?

Much to the surprise of Texans everywhere, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) appear to have formed a temporary alliance. These strange bedfellows have partnered up to prevent members of Congress from seeking lobbying positions, and there may be more tag-team events in the future. Cruz tweeted out an unlikely invitation to AOC, saying:

“Perhaps, in addition to the legislation we are already working on together to ban Members of Congress from becoming lobbyists, we can team up here as well. A simple, clean bill making birth control available over the counter. Interested?”

Perhaps there’s hope for members of Congress to work across the aisle, after all?

What to Watch For

If Ted Cruz can pull off a few bipartisan victories in the run-up to 2020, there’s no way he loses his seat in Texas to anyone. But what’s in it for AOC? Well, to date, she has been derided pretty much everywhere for lack of skill, competence, and her disastrous faux pas with Amazon in NYC. A few legislative wins under her belt may keep her in Congress and out of the bars.

The Biden Hype Machine

In 2016, we learned that, despite positive polling, a presidential candidate with the media on her side wouldn’t necessarily win the White House. The defeat of Hillary Clinton should have acted as a wake-up call to the pollsters and pundits who revel in the victories of their chosen team … but it didn’t.

Recent polling out of Texas gave Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden a solid lead over President Donald Trump. What’s more, the ever-reliable polling gave every other major contender a lead over the incumbent. Naturally, the media classes went bananas, predicting an electoral apocalypse for The Donald, and then seeking to spread the good cheer through their associated networks. There’s only one problem: It’s nonsense.

A Dem operative, choosing to remain nameless, spoke with The Hill, saying:

“The only thing we need to remember is that every single poll had Hillary Clinton winning and then she lost. I don’t put any stock in any poll, especially right now. I think Trump starts off in a strong position. Can he be beaten? Yes. But we’ll be going up against a machine and a very organized force. Don’t believe anyone who tells you Joe Biden or any Democrat is winning in Texas. That’s crazy. Give me a break.”

Even top Democratic pollster Chris Kofinis, whose job it is to gather the data and spread the word, had grave reservations that were not widely publicized. He said:

“Anyone who believes that the Democratic candidate is headed for a landslide victory right now is doomed to repeat the tragic history of 2016 … It’s a fundamental mistake for anyone to believe that reality can be projected or predicted based on these polls this far out from the general election.”

Will it once again be a case of pride coming before a fall? And what will happen to the media machine once the voting public loses what little faith it has left?

What to Watch For

Prepare for a battle between the Democratic Party and the legacy media. The news folks will be under the impression that they can swing the electorate in any way they see fit, while the party will be trying to minimize any major polling results in fear of voters dismissing the need to actually get out and cast their ballots.

Washington Whispers & Other Juicy Tidbits

Be on the lookout for:

• Will illegal immigration be curtailed now that Trump and Mexico have agreed to terms? It’s worth watching who actually keeps score of border crossings. If you hear about it in the media, then the numbers aren’t falling.
• Watch out for a whole host of Democrat mouthpieces playing down Joe Biden’s polling success on the airwaves. They don’t want a repeat of 2016.
• In the U.K., rumor has it that Boris Johnson will be the hard favorite to become the next Prime Minister.
