Editor’s Note: From the Back Forty is Liberty Nation’s longest-running and most popular weekly column. Capturing the truth each week from heartlanders in flyover states, LN gives voice to the hard-working Americans otherwise ignored by the coastal elites.
The good folks residing in flyover states were less than forgiving when discussing the critical issues of the social media day. From President Joe Biden’s fading poll numbers and lack of support from his own party to the plight of WNBA player Brittney Griner who is set to serve nine years in a Russian prison. Most folks felt Americans were the ones doing time, not the elite USA-hating basketball player, but who’s keeping score?
Fading Poll Numbers Unnerve Democrats
[substack align=”right”]A recent poll by Rasmussen Reports continues to ring the Red Tsunami alarm across the country, causing more Democrat incumbents and office-seekers to brush aside any thoughts of endorsing Joe Biden for a second term. After the latest plummeting numbers showing 54% disapprove of the Biden presidency. Is it his advanced age? Yes. Is it the crashing economy and surging inflation? Affirmative. And it could be that no one can interpret what the man says on or off script and that he appears to shake hands a lot with invisible people.
The list of folks piling on to not endorse this week includes Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and a doubling down by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). Add a few others to that list – including the most well-recognized progressive Democrat, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. The nagging thought is that Biden may be put out to pasture sooner, rather than later.
As Rep. Angie Craig said, “Many Minnesotans, myself included, are ready to see a new generation of leaders in the Democratic Party, and I will do everything in my power to help those new leaders up and down the ballot.” Well, you can’t get much plainer speak out of a politician, now, can you?
At least one heartlander had a tinge of sympathy for the fading free world leader. In Marshall, MO, Patty Jolliff said, “They need to have him step down–the poor man is not cognizant enough to do the job. It’s so painful to watch.” The “bless his heart” part was implied.
But in Gallatin, TN, a different temperament surfaced – not against Biden but what some called the bottom-feeders. Martie Terrin McKown spoke out: “And those are the ones trying to save their own azz! They, too, can go kick rocks! Bleep ’em!” Martie was a tad fired up. But Travis Boyd in Waco, TX, brought the discussion back down to earth when he reminded us, “Bit late for this measure of common sense, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.”
She Shoots. She Doesn’t Score
If one really wants to talk about fading poll numbers, look to Russia and the jail cell in which Brittney Griner finds herself locked up for the next nine years – unless Biden makes a trade with Putin. After Thursday’s sentencing pronouncement by Judge Anna Sotnikova, it took Russia a scant 24 hours to offer a deal, a prisoner swap of sorts: Convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, residing for the next 25 years in a cushy US prison, for the release of Griner and imprisoned corporate security executive Paul Whelan.
That was after the Kremlin warned Americans about what they refer to as “megaphone diplomacy” – where the media gets more involved than the politicians tasked with negotiations. Another Michigander, Tom Morris, jumped into the fray: “Why would she want to come back to America with all of this oppression we have? Russia can keep her.”
Pater Lechsenring piped up from Southern Illinois with an adamant no: “No prisoner swap — they have one of our marines over there, and they (Biden) did nothing for him. So I say leave her over there. She hates our country.” But Scott Upchurch in Newman, GA, had the best advice for the Biden administration yet, and gets the last word: “We shouldn’t trade a dangerous arms dealer for her; however, I would be willing to trade the entire cast of The View.”
