The First Lady of Persecution

Melania Trump can do nothing right according to the mainstream American media, and this has become almost impossible to ignore. A classic case in point was the First Lady’s trip to Ohio this week.

Mrs. Trump’s hospital visit to bring Valentine’s Day cards to sick children was covered by only one national media outlet. And that was – believe it or not – CNN. But of course, they couldn’t cover Mrs. Trump’s event without taking a few gratuitous swipes at her:

“The trip to Cincinnati, which the first lady made with her husband aboard Air Force One from Washington, comes on the heels of a few particularly trying weeks for her. Reports emerged about an alleged affair between her husband and a porn star, which he has denied, and a reported six-figure payoff to keep her quiet about it, which his lawyer also denied.”

CNN then took a jab at the Trump wedding anniversary which “went unacknowledged on the couple’s social media channel.” Sheesh, CNN acts like their illustrious reporters are in the First Bedroom taking notes.

What Happened in Ohio

The truth is that the First Lady seemed to have a wonderful time visiting children at the Ohio hospital. One adorable toe-headed child reached for the First Lady and without hesitation, Mrs. Trump swept her up into her arms for some cuddling and chit-chat.

But it wasn’t just photo-op time.  Putting some meat on the bone of her visit, FLOTUS also heard from the medical center’s neonatology and pediatric departments about Ohio’s devastating and rampant opioid epidemic.  At issue was how babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome are being handled. The condition – which has skyrocketed – causes babies to go through opioid withdrawal, and Ohio is the epicenter of this ugly truth.

Accompanied by Kellyanne Conway, Mrs. Trump also handed out Valentine’s to the little ones. But you wouldn’t know any of this if you read the leftist media. The Mercury News, for instance, carried an enormous picture of the First Couple with the headline, “Is Melania Trump getting revenge on Donald Trump by again refusing his hand?” Really? Has the media become a modern-day marriage counselor now?

Can’t Stop Themselves

In fact, these folks can’t stop themselves from either playing armchair therapist, kinesics expert or just saying anything malicious and cruel they can think of about the First Lady regarding her clothes, or her relationship with her husband.

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but the news coverage of Melania doesn’t seem to resemble anything like that of Mrs. Obama who was lauded for her brilliant fashion sense and loving marriage. The media treated the Obama’s relationship as a “Love Story” and headlined it as such.

Meanwhile, today’s Fourth Estate characterizes the Trump union as nothing short of “marriage on the rocks,” and I don’t mean with a twist. First of all – no one knows what goes on between two people in any marriage. And if they think they do they are kidding themselves. Secondly, one cannot place the mantle of “tastelessly coiffed” on Melania Trump. If there’s one thing the woman knows – its fashion.  Mrs. Trump is clearly an intelligent, successful and beautiful woman who has it all going on. To dismiss the good she does and appears to be is to miss the essence of the woman.

It’s too bad the media has run amok on Melania Trump. With a little bit of honest reporting, the nation might get to know the lady Mr. Trump fell in love with, and the person he continually says is kind and compassionate. Trust me; you can do a 20-minute Google search and not find one charitable word the president has ever said about his wife. But there is plenty of salacious gossip and hit pieces (Vanity Fair) to cover the bottom of every birdcage in the country.

Without a doubt, being the First Lady has its challenges. FDR and Eleanor not to mention JFK and Jackie could give us an earful. But to paint Mrs. Trump as a shallow, inappropriately dressed woman stuck in an unbearable marriage seems demonstrably unfair—not just to the First Lady but to a nation who just might like to get to know her a little better.
