Even Californians Don’t Want Harris for President

A new poll reveals the vice president’s unpopularity in her own state.

According to a newly released poll, Kamala Harris’ future in politics doesn’t look too rosy, especially in California, her home state. The vice president may have shot her way to the White House on Joe Biden’s coattails, in hopes of one day becoming commander-in-chief, but her current unpopularity will likely be a hindrance for Harris. According to the survey, more than half of Golden State voters would not like to see the former district attorney sit in the Oval Office.

Harris Is Not a Popular Candidate for President

From Feb. 14 to Feb. 20, the Berkeley Institute of Government Studies / Los Angeles Times conducted a poll of 7,512 registered voters. The participants were asked, “If Joe Biden decides not to run for a second term for President in 2024, how would you feel about Vice President Kamala Harris running for President in 2024?” Only 16% said they’d be “very enthusiastic”; another 21% chose the “somewhat enthusiastic” box. But a whopping 59% of California voters said they would not be enthusiastic for Harris to run for president.

While most Democrats are more likely to choose someone in their own party, 41% of her own state’s partisans said they would not be enthusiastic for a presidential run from Harris. According to the poll:

“There is nearly universal disdain for a Harris presidential bid among Republicans in this setting and nearly twice as many No Party Preference voters say they are not enthusiastic as express enthusiasm about this possibility.”

“The fact that 4 in 10 California Democrats don’t want to see Harris run for president is extremely worrying news for her,” reported SFGate.  The numbers don’t look too promising in gender and race categories, either, especially for the first black female to hold such a high office. The only group to approve of Harris running for president is blacks. Here’s a breakdown:

Females

  • 42% enthusiastic
  • 53% not enthusiastic
  • 5% no opinion

Males

  • 31% enthusiastic
  • 66% not enthusiastic
  • 3% no opinion

Whites

  • 32% enthusiastic
  • 66% not enthusiastic
  • 2% no opinion

Latino

  • 45% enthusiastic
  • 50% not enthusiastic
  • 5% no opinion

Asian / Pacific Islander

  • 32% enthusiastic
  • 60% not enthusiastic
  • 8% no opinion

Blacks

  • 56% enthusiastic
  • 40% not enthusiastic
  • 4% no opinion

Nationally, Harris is not very popular, either. According to a Feb. 24 FiveThirtyEight poll, her disapproval rating has increased by 7.5 points with 47.8% of Americans disapproving of the vice president’s performance so far. Of course, all of this may be moot now that Biden has basically announced he will be running for  re-election in 2024. However, the commander-in-chief isn’t all that popular in the Golden State either, according to the Berkeley Institute of Government Studies / Los Angeles Times survey. Only 37% of voters are in favor of the president running again while 57% are against it.

What has VP Harris accomplished to entice voters to want to see her sit behind the Resolute Desk? The border crisis is a disaster, and she has barely even visited the area, much less enacted any worthwhile solutions. She went to Germany to say Russia should be held responsible for crimes against humanity, but so far, it’s all talk with no teeth.

Perhaps it’s not her fault. As Liberty Nation Political Columnist Joe Schaeffer explained, the big-box media are blaming her failure on her race and gender, and, of course, the office itself. He quoted from The New York Times:

“Through much of the fall, a quiet panic set in among key Democrats about what would happen if President Biden opted not to run for a second term. Most Democrats interviewed … said flatly that they did not think Ms. Harris could win the presidency in 2024. Some said the party’s biggest challenge would be finding a way to sideline her without inflaming key Democratic constituencies that would take offense.”

As Biden gears up his campaign for re-election, the Democrats might want to see what they can do to improve the VP’s likability or hide her away, else they risk losing the votes of those who really don’t want to see Harris in office.
