Broken Border: Child Abuse Claims and a Public Health Nightmare

Border agents are playing Whack-A-Mole, overwhelmed by the illegal alien flood.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Migrants looking to get across the southern border to the United States are finding it much easier these days with the obliteration of former President Donald Trump’s immigration control policies by the current commander-in-chief. Sneaking across the border is still somewhat of a challenge, but not as difficult as this time last year. Smugglers have been taking advantage of the swarm of immigrants and various methods of distraction to help adults gain access – by using crowds of children to draw agents away from the adults. Border patrol officers seem to be playing Whack-A-Mole with migrants surging in through gaps and missing gates along the wall. And if that isn’t bad enough, there are reports of immigrants testing positive for COVID and being released, and children being sexually abused in at least one Texas facility.

“It is absolutely happening,” former acting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan told Fox News about distracting agents to aid adults in getting across the border, adding he’d seen it first-hand during a recent trip to McAllen, TX. He further explained:

“They will keep families, they will keep unaccompanied minors in the stash house on the Mexican side, overcrowded, unsanitary, no medical attention, no social distancing, no PPE, and they will keep them in stash houses until they get a certain number of people. They will tag them like cattle, write on their shirts or give them a bracelet, they will take them all and hold them and that’s exactly what they’ll do. They will bring them across in one area and say ‘go here.'”

The former CBP commissioner claims to have witnessed a steady stream of “about 200 unaccompanied minors and family units in the space of an hour.” The overwhelmed agents also had to deal with those who needed medical attention which allowed for less coverage for the wall. Morgan explained:

“While the Border Patrol agents are distracted providing humanitarian care, drugs and criminal aliens are just pouring through wide open, unmonitored unsecured areas.”

This isn’t the first time human smugglers have used this tactic, of course. It was observed in 2019 under Trump too, but the sheer number of illegals crossing under the Biden administration has only made matters exponentially worse. While the coyotes walk across with a crowd of children, agents leave the wall unprotected to rush to help, allowing adults to rush through undetected.

In the month of March alone, border officials encountered more than 171,000 migrants. Before Biden, adults and family units could be refused entry or returned via the Title 42 Public Health Protections Act, but the president is not applying said act. Meanwhile, Mexico is refusing to take back children under the age of seven, only compounding the border crisis. At the time of this writing, there were more than 4,000 children in CBP custody and more than 15,000 in Health and Human Services care, according to Fox News.

Child Abuse at the Border?

On April 7, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) demanded that the White House close a facility in San Antonio, alleging sexual abuse against minors. He claimed he’d received numerous tips on child abuse including children not getting enough to eat. “These problems are a byproduct of President Biden’s open-border policies and the lack of planning for the fallout for those disastrous policies,” he said.

Individual complaints were sent to the Department of Health and Human Services as well as the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, claiming four different kinds of child abuse. “In short,” Abbott said, “this facility is a health and safety nightmare.” He added: “The Biden administration is now presiding over the abuse of children.”

Abbott is not the only official concerned with child abuse at the San Antonio center. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) has demanded a federal investigation into the Freeman Coliseum facility, an event center that has been converted to use for unaccompanied minors. “The fact that any child would experience abuse in the care of the U.S. government is despicable,” Cornyn said. “The HHS Inspector General must fully investigate these allegations and the treatment of children at this facility.”

The White House Remains Quiet

[memberzone align=”left”] As complaints, accusations, and reports pile up, the White House is quiet as a mouse. Even though the president’s own Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned in March that the border could see more migrants than in the last 20 years, neither the president nor his second in command have even bothered to visit the distressed area.

V.P. Kamala Harris was recently put in charge of overseeing the border crisis, but she has yet to make an appearance. Meanwhile, border agents are overwhelmed, migrants are flooding into the U.S., many reportedly being released either without COVID testing or with positive results, and now allegations of child abuse at one of our facilities. Where is the outcry from the left and where are the commander-in-chief and vice president?

As Liberty Nation’s Editor-in-Chief Leesa K. Donner said:

“Whether the White House is simply out of touch with reality or trying to manage a large-scale cover-up is unclear. One thing is for certain, the Texas governor is having none of it and plans to continue calling out the administration for its lack of concern regarding an out-of-control immigrant crisis.”
