Allegations of sexual assaults come from none other than Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who came out swinging late yesterday demanding that government facilities holding migrant children are essentially houses of horror and must be closed. He called the conditions “deplorable” and called for the Texas Rangers to investigate:
“The Biden administration opened the borders and failed to plan for the influx of unaccompanied children crossing the border, and now we’re faced with our worst fears — allegations of child abuse and neglect.”
Abbott is particularly incensed by reports of sexual abuse of minors and inadequate food and supervision at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio. Thus far, the Biden Administration has done little more than make Vice President Kamala Harris the point person for border issues, but she has yet to hold a news conference on the subject. The Washington Examiner reports that the number of illegal aliens entering the country is unsustainable:
“… agents observed 170,000 migrants attempting to cross into the United States in March, compared to 100,000 who tried to do the same in February. A group of GOP lawmakers, led by Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, visited the border this week and said at least 1 million unaccompanied migrant children are set to arrive in the country by the conclusion of the year, dwarfing previous estimates of 117,000.”
In other border news:
- Texas Sen. John Cornyn is calling for a federal probe into the San Antonio facility.
- An MS-13 gang member was caught entering the U.S. in California, according to the Border Patrol.
- One hundred thirty illegals were caught trying to cross into U.S. territory and surrendered to the Arizona authorities.
Meanwhile, back at the White House, VP Harris traveled to a bakery in Chicago yesterday and left with a piece of German chocolate cake. Harris toured the Brown Sugar Bakery on the South Side because it is a COVID vaccination site. More than two weeks have gone by since Mr. Biden appointed Harris as the woman in charge of things on the southern border. Still, she’s silent and elusive as things begin to spiral out of control. When queried about Harris’s role and whether she would be traveling to the border, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said:
“I don’t have any trips to outline or preview. What our focus is on solutions and ensuring we have more beds, we’re making processing more efficient and effective, and that we are addressing this in a humane way that keeps these kids as safe as we possibly can.”
Whether the White House is simply out of touch with reality or trying to manage a large-scale cover-up is unclear. One thing is for certain, the Texas governor is having none of it and plans to continue calling out the administration for its lack of concern regarding an out-of-control immigrant crisis.
