WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 25: U.S. President Joe Biden, Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr., and Vice President Kamala Harris arrive for an event where Biden announced his intent to nominate Brown to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Rose Garden of the White House May 25, 2023 in Washington, DC. Brown is currently serving as the U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff. If confirmed by the Senate, Brown would be second African-American man, after Colin Powell, to hold the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the most senior military adviser to the president. The Secret Service announced today, July 13, that they are closing the investigation to determine who brought a small bag of cocaine into the White House. Claiming that forensic testing failed to find enough DNA or useable fingerprints – authorities say they have reached a dead end.
In a statement, the US Secret service said: “On July 12, the Secret Service received the FBI’s laboratory results, which did not develop latent fingerprints and insufficient DNA was present for investigative comparisons. There was no surveillance video footage found that provided investigative leads or any other means for investigators to identify who may have deposited the substance in this area.”
Republicans on Capitol Hill argued in multiple interviews on Fox News that they find this ending to the mystery unacceptable. Texas Rep. Pat Fallon appeared non-plussed by the lack of answers. “This is supposed to be one of the most secure places in the country if not the world and there was cocaine found. That is very serious.”
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said in a separate interview that fingerprints should have been found. Meanwhile, the White House is more than a bit defensive after being caught saying the first family was away when the incident occurred when, in fact, a press pool report showed the family was in residence and did not leave the White House grounds until after 6 p.m. on Friday, July 7.
The investigation comes to an unresolved close less than two weeks after it began. Thus, as expected by many, it may never come to light who deposited the illegal drug in the president’s house.
