BREAKING: Supreme Court Tackles Adult Websites but Punts on Redistricting

High Court upholds the law in the name of protecting children.

Justice Clarence Thomas on Friday authored an opinion for a 6-3 ruling in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton. Justice Elena Kagan dissents, joined by Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Justice Thomas and the majority affirmed the Fifth Circuit’s ruling that upheld the Texas law requiring age verification for visitors to adult websites.

After a day of 6-3 decisions, resolving nearly every issue remaining before the Court, the majority punted on Louisiana v. Callais. The Supreme Court announced that the case will be argued again next term, but Justice Thomas dissented. “Congress requires this Court to exercise jurisdiction over constitutional challenges to congressional redistricting, and we accordingly have an obligation to resolve such challenges promptly,” he wrote.
