Iranian state TV announced Monday that the Islamic State has attacked a US Air Force base in the Persian Gulf state of Qatar. A source with knowledge of the operation told The Hill that 10 missiles were fired at the Al Udeid Air Base. A White House official said, “The White House and the Department of Defense are aware of, and closely monitoring, potential threats to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.”
This is the first direct military response by Iran to the weekend attack by US warplanes and submarines that decimated three nuclear facilities south of Tehran, the Iranian capital.
Qatari authorities are reporting that the missiles were destroyed and that they caused no casualties or damage. American citizens in the area have been advised to shelter in place.
