Dick Cheney, known primarily for serving as George W. Bush's vice president, passed away late Monday, November 3. He was 84 years old.

His family released a statement explaining that Cheney died due to “complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.” The message further read:

"For decades, Dick Cheney served our nation, including as White House Chief of Staff, Wyoming’s Congressman, Secretary of Defense, and Vice President of the United States."

Cheney’s impact on politics in DC was certainly immense, having served under so many administrations. His political career began in 1968. He was soon working for President Richard Nixon and then later President Gerald Ford, before beginning his first of six terms as a US Representative for Wyoming.

The family statement concluded by outlining his many roles beyond the political realm: "Dick Cheney was a great and good man who taught his children and grandchildren to love our country, and to live lives of courage, honor, love, kindness, and fly fishing. We are grateful beyond measure for all Dick Cheney did for our country. And we are blessed beyond measure to have loved and been loved by this noble giant of a man."
