Very Fine Landslides on Both Sides

America got two landslides – and they canceled each other out.

Before the election, both the Democrats and Republicans predicted their candidate would win in a landslide. It turns out that there were very fine landslides on both sides, in certain respects – and we’re not talking about the voter fraudsters and the conspiracy theorists because they should be condemned totally. Instead, voters came out in record numbers for both candidates, giving a historically high turnout.

Trump vs. Obama 2008

When all the votes are tallied, Trump will end up with several million more votes than Obama did in 2012. Trump versus Obama ‘12 would have given Trump both the popular vote and an Electoral College victory. For that matter, Trump 2020 would have beaten even Obama’s record-setting 2008, though not nearly as impressively so.

Donald Trump and Barack Obama

The president got almost 6 million more votes than he did in 2016, and one-third of those were minority voters. In total, Trump garnered around 26% of the minority vote, which is the highest for any Republican presidential candidate in 60 years. By comparison, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) only got 11% of the minority vote in 2012, and President George W. Bush got a meager 9% in 2000.

With average turnout, Trump could have won a landslide victory fueled by a wave of minority voters and disaffected blue-collar whites. The 2020 turnout has been more than average, of course, and the landslide has not materialized, assuming a fair and accurate vote-count.

Biden vs. Obama 2008

However, the Democrats also got a similarly massive landslide. Biden will probably end up with 17 million more votes than Hillary Clinton in 2016. Most of these new votes were low-information college-educated white voters who came out in droves to protest what they perceive as a racist president.

While many of these votes were cast more against President Trump than for Joe Biden, the former VP’s 2020 numbers blow Obama’s 2008 vote totals out of the water.

Trump vs. the Media

If you find it hard to square the fact that Trump got record minority support with the claim that he is a bigot, the reason is that Biden was not the real candidate on the ballot. It was the mainstream media. For four years, they have made no pretense of journalism but have instead been feeding easily debunked hoaxes and lies to the American people.

One of the most well-known is the so-called “fine people” hoax, of which entrepreneur and Dilbert-creator Scott Adams has been the most fervent debunker.

The mainstream media have endlessly claimed that Trump praised neo-Nazis in Charlottesville when he said that there were “very fine people on both sides.” They blatantly edit out the sentence where he said, “I am not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists because they should be condemned totally,” which negates the meaning put forth by the media narrative.

The “fine people” hoax was the cornerstone of Biden’s campaign. He ran massive TV ad campaigns repeating the lie. Millions of Americans went to the voting booth based on this media disinformation campaign. With a free and fair press, this would have been unthinkable. Such blatant propaganda usually is only found in dubious regimes such as China, Iran, and Belarus.

Canceling Landslides

In a world with an honest media devoted to journalism, only one of these two landslides would have occurred. Instead, they canceled each other out, and America ended up with a nail-biting thriller ending that is destined to leave half of Americans feeling they were cheated out of the election by the other side.
