Back in the heartland, folks seem to be reaching the same conclusion about this week’s political noise: There’s plenty of it, and not much of it has anything to do with fixing the problems in front of us. From campaign theater to outrage over logos, the volume keeps rising while common sense is left waiting in the wings. And from Iran practicing performance art depicting Trump behind bars to the Atlanta Falcons’ logo sending social media into a full-blown meltdown, the week’s cultural highlights are proving that symbolism remains undefeated.

The New Bird Gets the Bird

The Atlanta Falcons dusted off an old logo, and the internet reacted as if the team had unveiled a new national flag for the Führer. Suddenly, a football bird that looks a lot like the Seattle Seahawks' bird is at the center of a cultural firestorm – proof that in midterm season, even a falcon can become a political candidate.

The big reveal generated 37 million views and counting. And that’s the goal, somewhat. X has been flooded with memes, jokes, and people no one cares about weighing in. Some have dubbed it “the bird Reich,” while others are questioning why the 2-4 Falcons are making headlines for their logo instead of their performance on the field.

To put the chorus of Karens and skinny-jeans folks at ease, the design dates back to the franchise's early years in the 1960s. Everyone likes retro, and the heartland is tired of the pearl-clutching keyboard experts. Chase Dennis from Lake, MS, spoke with dripping sarcasm: “Stretch Armstrong couldn't reach that far.”

In Tulsa, OK, Jerry Hancock waited for the resulting wails. “If it creates an increase in Liberal Tears, I’m all for it.”

And a feisty Fairborn, OH, lady, Tanya Craft, explained it in simple terms even a five-year-old could understand: “This is their old image. That people today are freaking out about it now speaks volumes about the amoeba-mindset.”

Iran Gets Feisty in a Weird Way

The social justice crowd and other woke warriors don't seem to delve too deep before backing Iran over America. Do they really want to know that Iran would rather allow its citizen soldiers to blow up than surrender? It makes you wonder if there is a class on suicidal empathy somewhere in the Ivies. Why else would the Iranian performance art depicting Trump behind bars make the peace and coexist folks all tingly? Iran is the enemy. It has been since 1979, with not that many years spent ignoring one another in between conflicts. Somehow, it was a good idea to stick an actor in a Trump mask to pace back and forth so the people in the streets could mock him. And the liberal left in America can’t get enough of it.

But the heartland is just waiting for the carpet bombing and parking lot paving to begin. Shana Poston was concerned about the actor: “lol I would not be standing there for very long…..js!”

And Michigan alum M-Go-Blue John Peterson was thoughtful: “He must be doing something right. Iran didn't do that to Obama or Biden.” John may have been referencing the pallets of cash shipped by former President Barack Obama. But what do we know here in the breadbasket?

ICYMI

The US general fertility rate hit a new low in 2025, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That creates a rich environment for discussion, but this observation by Scott McGraw in Minnesota kind of won with simplicity: “I would have figured birth rates would be going up now that men can get pregnant.”

Meanwhile, President Trump toyed with renaming something else. Heartlanders say leave the Atlantic Ocean alone, but at least his name fits on yard signs.
