Former Advocates Head South to Stop Illegal Immigration

How Mayor Eric Adams found himself in an immigrant circle of hell he created.

It took several years, record-setting numbers of border hoppers, and angry and desperate sanctuary cities for Democrats to publicly admit that America has an illegal immigration crisis overwhelming the nation’s resources and patience. After a Republican effort in Texas and Florida rerouted buses and planes full of asylum seekers to America’s most vocal pro-immigrant municipalities, the “crisis” squawking began by the radical left. And now everyone is finally heading down south to figure it all out.

Mayor Eric Adams of New York City has taken matters into his own hands, heading to Mexico and Central America to put a stop to the surge. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken led a US delegation to Mexico with Attorney General Merrick Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to get a handle on the issue of border security. And Joe Biden has decided to resume building that Big Beautiful Wall. If only President Trump had thought of that first.

NYC: Illegal Immigration Blues

The messaging in 2021 was robust when Adams tweeted: “We should protect our immigrants. Period. Yes, New York City will remain a sanctuary city under an Adams administration.” The cheers were deafening. In between begging for the LGBTQ+ community to leave Florida, hizzoner also put out another pro-immigrant message in 2022: “There is a reason that Lady Liberty sits outside of NYC’s harbor. This is the place where we ensure we live up to the expectations of what it is to be an American, an American citizen, or a country that welcomes those fleeing prosecution and persecution.”

Fast forward to 2023, 110,000 unruly undocumented folks, and angry American New Yorkers. Now the Adams administration is calling for closing the border altogether, which is why he spent time in Mexico and will be rounding out his uninvited tour to those “fleeing prosecution and persecution” in Bogotá, Colombia, and Darién Gap. The goal: to paint a picture of doom and gloom for immigrants in the Big Apple. His message? If allowed in, they will “destroy New York City … The city we knew, we’re about to lose.” How unsanctuary-esque.

Molly Schaefer, the interim director of NYC’s Asylum Seeker Operations, sounded the panic bell when numbers indicated that up to 4,200 seekers might descend upon Gotham. So far, NYC has received an average of 3,000 Spanish-speaking newbies for the past few months.

But compare that to Eagle Pass, TX, the tiny border town with numbers exceeding 10,000 per day in September. It’s difficult for some Texans to shed a tear for the self-made Big Apple predicament.

Too Little, Too Late?

While Adams attempts to take matters into his own hands after begging for assistance from the feds, the G-men began diplomatic negotiations in hopes of derailing human and drug trafficking. The Biden administration officials are meeting with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Rosa Icela Rodriguez, secretary for Security and Citizen Protection, to hash out a way to move forward after what some might call an anemic reaction to border security by the Biden administration.

As reported by VOA:

“Through August of this year, the US Customs and Border Protection agency has seized more than 25,500 pounds of fentanyl entering the US, nearly double the amount seized in the same period last year. The amount of fentanyl seized in the US is up 800% since 2019, according to the Homeland Security Department, with most of it coming from Mexico.”

The rush from the Biden administration to deport Venezuelans and resume the construction of the barrier in Texas is only beginning now in the run-up to the 2024 presidential competition. Those Democrats in NYC seem to have soured on the sanctuary city label and may vote for the guy or gal that will end the open borders debate – at least for four years. Until election day rolls around, the southern states will continue to send migrants to once friendlier territory, and Biden will likely keep President Trump’s promise to “build that Big Beautiful Wall.” As for Mayor Eric Adams? He finds himself in the middle of a circle of illegal immigration hell he created.
