Saul Alinsky: Will the Left Ever Leave the Bubble?

by | Aug 17, 2018 | Articles, The Left

Leftist groupthink has metastasized into a combination of The Blob and Invasion of the Body Snatchers: The bubble gets bigger the more it imbibes people, and once ensnared, you become a part of the hive, where diversity of thought has been eviscerated and substituted with a monolith. Should you dare attempt to break free from the chains of collectivism, the mob will chase you down, shriek 21st century progressive slurs, and ensure you return to your leftist masters.

As part of rule two in his seminal 1971 book, Rules for Radicals, Saul Alinsky writes: “Never go outside the expertise of your people” because the move “results in confusion, fear, and retreat.”

This has indeed become a critical component of the neoteric leftist movement. Today, the public is witnessing in real-time the left abandon independent thinking in favor of adhering to the left’s collectivist, intersectional commandments, which include:

  • All white males are evil.
  • All abortions are morally justified.
  • All people right of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), even blacks, are white supremacists.
  • All cultures are superior to the West.
  • All poor people are victims, unless they oppose leftist ideology.

There are additional commandments in the Gospel of Leftism, but these summarize what members of the congregation need to be ingrained with: hate, resentment, and iniquity. If you are a devout follower, you are immune from criticism and you climb the ladder. If you sin, the outrage mob will reach out for their digital pitchforks to ensure you’re unpersoned and vanquished to a CNN brainwashing room.

Examples of Conquering

The greatest recent example was the censoring of Alex Jones, who, for all his bombastic and wild antics, dared speak out against the social constructionists, the coastal elites, and the deep state. The left felt threatened by the power and reach of Jones, especially with the midterm elections around the corner.

There have been other daily occurrences of the hive wielding its power.

Newseum was taken hostage recently and forced to issue an apology for selling a “You Are Fake News” t-shirt. At first, the organization resisted the perturbed social media crowd by reassuring everyone that it allows “differing viewpoints.” Unfortunately, it caved by apologizing, strangely adding that “journalists are not the enemy of the people.” Newseum risked accepting various points of view and expressing its First Amendment rights.

Celebrities, despite being rich and powerful, have groveled to the whims of the left. Shania Twain issued a lengthy apology on Twitter for saying she would have voted for President Donald Trump. Actress Ruby Rose deleted her social media accounts because the left deemed her not gay enough to play Batwoman. Actor Mark Duplass “was really sorry” after he praised Ben Shapiro.

Universities have been at the epicenter of intellectual intolerance. Anytime a conservative or libertarian speaker is scheduled to deliver a speech on a left-leaning campus, there is upheaval because millennials are triggered by different opinions, whether it is promoting free-market capitalism or denouncing affirmative action.

Why the Opposition?

The question is now: Why is the left frightened of intellectual adversaries? Since much of their ideas are void of logic and consistency, the left feels insecure because anyone with a grain of intellect might take a blowtorch to the Gospel of Leftism.

It is as Alinsky opines: “Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.”

You can only feel secure if you are surrounded by a like-minded gathering. If there are fellow anti-white, pro-abortion, anti-male, pro-government, and anti-shower folk in the crowd, then you can expatiate with poise. You can remain confident that your grandiose claims, delivered with five-dollar words and incorrect data will never be questioned.

Why else would Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reject a discussion with Ben Shapiro?

And this is why the left refuses to allow a Jordan Peterson, a Charles Murray, or a Christina Hoff Summers to ever peacefully appear on campus. By potentially prohibiting their entry, the left can continually mold young minds and prevent them from ever being open to ideas that were tossed down the Memory Hole years ago.

Therefore, the left can successfully attract and retain a following by quashing dissent, embrangling a good-natured public, and accusing opponents of the very thing they are guilty of – another rule of Saul Alinsky’s.
