Progressive Crimes: Does the Left See the Law in a Different Light?

First, there was the #MeToo scandal with movie producer Harvey Weinstein at the center. Now we have the college scam, also involving Hollywood celebrities. Is there a pattern worth considering here?

Interestingly, many of the people involved in these scandals were major Hillary Clinton supporters or otherwise politically left-leaning. Weinstein was one of Clinton’s largest donors, and Felicity Huffman and her husband William H. Macy tweeted out “WE LOVE HILLARY!” on Election Day 2016.

A mere coincidence? Perhaps, but as more #MeToo stories broke, it became clear that most of the outed sexual abusers were male feminists or leftists. Initially, Vice President Mike Pence was ridiculed for saying that he would never be alone in a room with a woman other than his wife. After #MeToo, no one is laughing anymore, and it has become clear that conservatives like Pence are highly unlikely ever to become entangled in sexual harassment scandals.

The Evidence

Although data from the college scam are sparse, maybe it is more than coincidence that celebrities on the left appear to be overrepresented. We know from statistics that convicted criminals vote overwhelmingly Democratic.

When leftists are faced with this fact, they often shrug it off, like they do with poverty. Poverty, they claim, creates crime, and obviously poor people tend to vote for wealth redistribution because they want fairness. The relationship between crime and poverty is complicated, but even if we grant this premise, we know that wealthy Democrats are overrepresented in crime statistics.

The five most corrupt cities in America according to the University of Illinois (Chicago, Los Angeles, Manhattan borough of New York City, Washington D.C., Miami) are all run by Democrats, and politicians and bureaucrats can hardly be characterized as poor. The evidence is starting to point toward a greater propensity for crime on the left than among conservatives, and the #MeToo and college scam scandals add to that growing body of evidence.

Here it is crucial to add the usual caveat: Most people on the left are law-abiding citizens, just like most men are not murderers. However, just like most murderers are men, it appears that most criminals are on the left.

The Explanation

This can be explained psychologically by the fact that people on the left tend to be more open-minded, whereas conservatives are more border minded. Open-minded people like to try new things, break norms, and think outside the box. That is an excellent quality for creativity, but the downside is that they also tend to be more “creative” about the law and too quick to judge by group characteristics such as race. They don’t like rules, and that sometimes means ignoring the law.

That includes thinking outside the ballot box and “creative” vote counting.

An Essential Fact

Again, it is important to emphasize that most people – on both sides of the political divide – are law-abiding citizens. However, the fact that statistics show that most criminals are on the left is essential information that everyone should know. Why? Leftists claim that conservatives are less moral, accusing them of all sorts of deplorable behavior. The evidence suggests that the opposite is the case. If every significant conservative figurehead reiterated this fact, the entire national conversation would dramatically change. And probably for the better.
