After the Weinstein scandal and so many people in Hollywood coming out about the abuse they have experienced, it is time to start asking difficult questions: is it a coincidence that the abusive Hollywood also happens to be a leftist snake pit? Is this part of a broader pattern of behavior among people who lean left?
Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago authored a report on the most corrupt cities in America. Here is top five:
- Chicago
- Los Angeles
- Manhattan
- Washington D.C
- Miami
Do you notice a pattern? All are Democratic strongholds. The evidence strongly indicates that corruption is first and foremost a problem with people on the left.
Crime Statistics
Let’s look at crime. According to a study in the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, Democrats dramatically outnumber Republicans among felons. From The Washington Examiner:
“The authors, professors from the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University, found that in some states, felons register Democratic by more than six-to-one. In New York, for example, 61.5 percent of convicts are Democrats, just 9 percent Republican. They also cited a study that found 73 percent of convicts who turn out for presidential elections would vote Democrat.”
Crime, corruption and abusive behavior can be found across the political spectrum, but it is interesting, albeit unnerving, that bad behavior seems to cluster on the left. It seems prudent to ask if Weinstein would have been a sexual abuser had he been a conservative, orthodox Jew rather than a secular liberal one.
Contrast Weinstein with Vice President Mike Pence. The leftist press ridiculed him for his stated self-imposed rule that he would never meet a woman other than his wife alone in private. Imagine how many women would have been spared humiliation and abuse if Weinstein had followed the same rule.
Base Psychology
What is the reason for this disturbing statistical difference between the left and the right? Personality psychology may provide an answer. Psychological research shows that people of different political persuasion have distinctly different personality traits. People who identify themselves as liberal tend to score higher on the trait known as openness, but low on conscientiousness. Conservatives tend to be less open, but more conscientious.
What this means is that conservatives like their borders. Build that wall! They love rules and are good at following them and therefore make excellent engineers and managers. The downside is that they are not so creative. They like the box so much that they don’t like thinking outside it.
Make Your Choice
Those who call themselves progressive or liberal, however, tend to be more open to new experiences and change. They find conventions and conformity to be like a straightjacket. Their greatest strength is creativity and flexibility, which is great for the arts and innovative technology. That may be why liberals dominate Hollywood, Silicon Valley, and the media. The downside seems to be that they are not very good at following rules, which increases their propensity for crime and corruption.
