It is no surprise that the entertainment industry is largely comprised of left-leaning figures. It is also not a major shock that many of these folk would have anti-Trump views. But is using one of the main celebrity platforms of the year as an opportunity to promote fake news and mock the president of the United States really the best use of their particular privilege?
In what was supposed to be an entertaining skit, a number of celebrities “interviewed” for the part of reading out excerpts of Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury book. Each part was a knock at the president recounting passages that have even been debunked by the book’s author who admitted that his assertions should be “taken with a grain of salt.” Even Hillary Clinton deigned to make an appearance.
This is an industry that is a long way off holding the moral high-ground. In recent months, Hollywood and the entertainment industry have been awash with accusations of sexual assault and harassment. Yet it is the fact that this was an “open secret” that is most worrying of all. Those who chose to turn a blind eye to what amounts to a form of sexual slavery (although, many did have a choice not be in that environment), do not deserve respect or adulation…And in no way should they be considered a moral authority.
To have celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Cher, and Jon Legend poke fun is fine. They are private citizens entitled to their own opinions. But when the Grammys decide to bring in Hillary Clinton to cast aspersions of paranoia and mental illness at the candidate that beat her, we can see that this is a question of choosing sides.
During Clinton’s part, she read from Wolff’s book the section pertaining to why Donald Trump eats McDonald’s. It says that he (Trump) has a fear of being poisoned so prefers to eat where the food is made in advance. It is a continuation of the attacks on his mental health and is by no means a randomly chosen excerpt.
Those of a more conspiratorial mindset might see this event as part of a larger plan to perhaps set the groundwork for invoking the 25th Amendment following a (potentially) successful midterm revival for the Democrats.
But its essence is simple…Undermine the President and make him appear a joke figure. The entertainment industry has fully revealed their position, and surprising no one, it is the same position as the radical left.
A Lost Cause?
But should we turn our back on celebrities and entertainers (probably yes) for their political views? Or are they victims of their environment? There are many in workplaces across the world who must keep their political leanings secret for fear of workplace discrimination, and there are those that know being honest could mean they will never work in their chosen industry again.
There are conservatives in the entertainment industry. It has even been rumored that there is a secret society of conservatives who join together in tough times to take solace in each other’s company. One bright spark in the evening’s entertainment was Joy Villa, who last year wore a Make America Great Again dress and this year bravely sported a Pro-Life outfit.
But like in all walks of life, unless we are willing to each stand up and be loud and proud of our views, they count for very little.
I ask the brave in the limelight to step forward and be counted among those that fear not the wrath of “Titans,” become a part of a real movement for change, and know that you are not alone in wanting your nation to succeed.
