House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) thought she was clever when she sent President Donald Trump a letter stating that the State of the Union Address needed to be canceled or postponed because of security concerns due to the government shutdown.
However, inadvertently, she displayed her true priorities: She is deeply concerned about her own safety and wants to build a wall of security around those important people in Washington, D.C., but not a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border to protect the American people.
That’s world-class trolling.
Few political pundits have pointed out this hypocrisy, and the Republicans are nowhere to be seen. Fortunately, some rogue elements in the alternative media have done so. One of them is conservative activist and stunt-reporter Laura Loomer.
Recently, Loomer exposed Pelosi’s hypocrisy in a humorous, non-violent, and memorable way. She followed in the footsteps of the legacy media to not only report the news but also to create it.
Together with a film crew and some illegal aliens she had befriended, she climbed the wall on Pelosi’s property in California. Immediately discovered by security, they were told to leave the premises. Loomer pricelessly responded that Pelosi had said that walls are immoral and that California is a sanctuary state, so she was just taking her hospitality literally.
When the security guards asked Loomer to show her ID, she brilliantly replied that according to Pelosi and the Democratic Party, IDs are racist. When the guards said she was trespassing on private property, she said, “I’m a dreamer. I have every right to be here.”
That’s world-class trolling.
Where Are the Republicans?
By taking the Democrats at their word and acting on it, Loomer exposed the hollowness of their rhetoric. At the same time, Loomer exposed the impotence of the Republican Party. Why isn’t Pelosi chronically challenged and ridiculed for her hypocrisy by major political figureheads? The only one who does so on a regular basis is the master-troller himself, the president.
That’s a shame because the American people deserve better than Republicans who throw only softballs while the Democrats use dirt and rocks.
Bring Out the Popcorn
While we wait for the Republicans to grow a spine and show some willingness to fight, we can bring out the popcorn and enjoy the show that Trump puts on. He is the only politician who consistently outplays the Democrats at their own game.
During an insoluble national crisis over what amounts to pocket change, he masterfully announced a new meeting with North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un in February. The underlying message is this: Even a mad Communist dictator is more cooperative than the Democratic Party. Trump can make world peace and denuclearize the Korean peninsula, but he can’t get a dime from the Democrats to protect the American people.
The timing is probably not random. By announcing it during the government shutdown, Trump is using one of the strongest tools of persuasion: contrast by opposites. That’s the reason he was elected president. He cleverly uses it to expose unreasonable behavior on the left. Whether it is enough to get ordinary funding for a border wall remains to be seen.
