The new Congress, just days into its term, is keeping true to the promise of cracking down on illegal immigration. On Thursday, Jan. 16, the House passed legislation that mandates migrants convicted of sex crimes or domestic violence – or those who admit to committing such crimes – be deported and blocked from entering the US. A previous version of the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act had passed the House of Representatives last year but died in the Democrat-led Senate.

Although current laws resemble this legislation, the new measure has a more inclusive definition of domestic violence. “The current definition isn’t broad enough,” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), author of the bill, said on the floor. “A vote against this bill is a vote against deporting illegal aliens who rape and abuse women and children.”

The comment was directed at the 145 Democrats who voted against the legislation. “Our country has been ravaged by a horror of illegal immigrants … violently raping American women and girls,” Mace said. “I know the lifelong scars, the irreversible scars, these heinous crimes leave behind.”

Elon Musk, a strong supporter of the bill, called for lawmakers who voted against it to lose their House seats. “There is no excuse,” he posted on X. “Please post the list of people who opposed this law and want to keep illegals who are convicted sex offenders in America. They need to be voted out of office. Every one of them.”

Democrats against the measure said it would harm domestic abuse victims who fought back against their attackers and claimed the bill “broadens the definition to domestic violence to the detriment of survivors,” Fox News explained.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said the bill “does absolutely nothing to address the needs of the American people,” and that, instead, it “widens the highway to Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans.” She then added that it would “create a chilling effect for reporting future crimes” and “empower abusers to go after immigrant women and children.”

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) told Fox News Digital: “House Democrats’ votes against H.R. 30 should be seen for what they are: Prioritizing criminal illegal immigrants over the safety and well-being of their constituents. It’s unconscionable that we have to pass legislation like this, much less have members oppose it.”

Missouri to Track Illegal Migrants

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe, a Republican, signed a half-dozen executive orders on Monday, January 13. Two of the six deal specifically with illegal immigration issues.

One approves sending selected troopers from the state’s Highway Patrol to federal immigration enforcement training. The other requires law enforcement to include the immigration status of those in arrest reports to be added to the statewide reporting system. Kehoe said these executive orders will allow Missouri “to assist with immigration enforcement when called upon by President Trump’s administration.”
