Merrick Garland and the Drive toward ‘Westlessness’

Biden AG nominee parrots Munich elite's attacks on the nation-state.

by | Feb 26, 2021 | Articles, Law

One cannot fully grasp the scope of alarming statements made by Joe Biden’s attorney general nominee, Merrick Garland, at his Senate confirmation hearing on Feb. 22 without understanding the bedrock ideology that pervades the Biden administration. The worldview that dominates the new occupants of the White House is cemented around the notion that a “rules-based international order” must supplant the nation-states that currently make up the Western World.

Just three days before Garland’s Capitol Hill appearance, Biden gave a virtual address to the Munich Security Conference, a gathering of globalist elites that Politico EU has declared outdoes Davos as the place “where [the] world’s power brokers really meet.” In his speech, Biden referred to his 2019 in-person address in which he promised his foreign audience that the America First nationalism of the Trump administration would not last and that the U.S. “will be back” in the internationalist fold.

Transatlantic Alliances vs. Pat Buchanan Terrorists

On Feb. 19, a triumphant Biden gleefully reminded his fellow elites of his promise:

“And two years ago, as you pointed out, when I last spoke at Munich, I was a private citizen; I was a professor, not an elected official. But I said at that time, ‘We will be back.’ And I’m a man of my word. America is back.

I speak today as President of the United States at the very start of my administration, and I’m sending a clear message to the world: America is back. The transatlantic alliance is back. And we are not looking backward; we are looking forward, together.”

A closer examination of the Munich confab reveals just what Biden is offering America up to. The lead item for the official “Munich Security Report 2020” is titled “Westlessness.” This treatise, which bears no disclaimer labeling it as “personal opinion” or “not reflective of the Munich Security Conference,” paints white Christian nationalism as a dire threat to democracy. The MSC declares that borders are a milder symptom of illiberal nationalistic extremism while bizarrely decreeing that readers of popular conservative commentator Pat Buchanan are terrorists:

“In its moderate version, this school of thought calls for walls and borders, the rejection of refugees, or the opposition to political correctness and gender mainstreaming….

In its most extreme variant, this stream of thinking has led white nationalists to attack synagogues and mosques in the West – or to kill citizens and politicians with different political beliefs. Drawing on books such as Patrick Buchanan’s ‘The Death of the West,’ right-wing terrorists believe that they are defending ‘the West’ against its enemies.”

Garland: Blasé Borders and Trump McVeigh

In the immediate wake of Biden’s public embrace of these virulent internationalists, Merrick Garland fully embodied this harshly anti-nationalist sentiment at his Senate hearing.

Liberty Nation’s Mark Angelides captured Garland’s stunning remarks about illegal aliens crossing our sovereign borders:

“In a prelude to what the nation might expect over the next few years, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) asked nominee Garland whether crossing the U.S. border illegally should ‘remain a crime.’ The prospective attorney general’s answer stretched the bounds of credibility, saying he ‘hadn’t thought about it.’ Pressed further, Garland uttered a string of evasive answers that may seem all-too-familiar to Congress watchers, including that he lacks detailed knowledge of the current arrangements, does not know what the current program is, doesn’t know the surrounding issues, and the somewhat worrying ‘I’ve had no experience whatsoever with the guidelines, so I can’t give you a direct answer to that question.’”

LN also documented Garland’s transparent efforts to tie the ghost of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh to former President Donald Trump and his America First movement:

“’From 1995 to 1997, I supervised the prosecution of the perpetrators of the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building, who sought to spark a revolution that would topple the federal government,’ Garland declared right off the bat in his opening statement. ‘If confirmed, I will supervise the prosecution of white supremacists and others who stormed the Capitol on January 6 – a heinous attack that sought to disrupt a cornerstone of our democracy.’

Garland promised senators that if confirmed, investigating the actions of that day would immediately become his Justice Department’s ‘first priority and my first briefing.’”

There is an endgame to all of this. The Munich Security Report doesn’t attempt to hide its keen desire to discard the nation-state as a tired relic of an outdated past:

“In this context, a nostalgia-inspired return to homogeneous nation-states becomes a powerful force. As Donald Trump put it in his address to the UN General Assembly in 2019: ‘The future does not belong to globalists. The future belongs to patriots.’ For those defending the long dominant liberal definition of the West, in contrast, it is precisely the rise of illiberalism and the return of nationalism that put the West at risk.”

There you have it. The modern-day aristocrats of Munich are labeling the populist right in America and Europe as the enemies of democracy, which has been redefined as the rules-based international order. Enemies of democracy are terrorists. By eerily echoing these slanders, Merrick Garland is not some wild-eyed woke leftist. He is a professional functionary in service to a transnational globalist elite. And the many progressives who fall in love with his appeals to destroy Trumpian “white supremacy” are nothing more than pawns in this ultimate one-percenter game.
