London Mayor to Silicon Valley: Stop Hate Speech

by | Mar 16, 2018 | Free Speech

Thankfully, we can speak freely in this country. There are some restrictions, but overall we are fortunate; that is not the case in the majority of the world. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, recently told the BBC that Silicon Valley, specifically Facebook, and Twitter, should take charge to “hate speech.” Khan referenced German law, under which companies are fined for allowing hate speech on social media sites. Such rhetoric is an example of a radical leftist that doesn’t like facing an opposing point of view because he can’t defend his own position.

Germany has laws that “protect” people from certain kinds of speech. But we do not operate under the European Union. America has the First Amendment for a reason; it allows us to speak against the government with no fear of retaliation, provided there are no death threats. Our Founding Fathers understood how vital this is. Germany, and other European countries with similar speech suppression laws, are a modern example of what Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Franklin fled.

The government’s job is not to regulate what is real and fake in the news. By doing so, the government is essentially saying the citizens aren’t smart enough to think for themselves. It is also saying that we are only allowed to read and learn certain things – just what they approve. Khan’s implication is both insulting and dangerous. Politicians who have dirty dealings should be exposed on Facebook and Twitter, regardless of their political party affiliation.

There are people who read and believe anything. But there are plenty of others who can filter through the trash. Having some buy the hype is just part of living in a free society.

Khan went on to mention a retweet that Trump made at the end of last year. Jayda Fransen, a Britain First activist who is against mass migration, posted about a Muslim who destroyed a statue of the Virgin Mary. He condemned the retweet, but not the hate speech in the video.

Khan, a Muslim, is an advocate for arresting those who conduct “hate speech.” He is blatantly one-sided on this issue. He is intolerant of those who speak out against the violence that extreme Islamists brings against those who do not believe as they do. This should not be surprising, as Khan has links to extremists.

The danger of a government “regulating fake news” is clear. In the countries of Germany, Sweden, France, and England there has been an influx of violent crimes, rape, and growing Islamic no-go zones. Leftists often attempt to silence people who speak of Islamic extremists, even though Angela Merkel admits they exist. Leftist government leaders are putting their citizens in danger for the sake of open border politics and suppressing the truth.

Perhaps, Khan should worry more about London knife attacks and the 20% increase in rapes, or maybe this is the “fake news” he is trying to censor.
