LN Web Gems 3.11.17: Cannibal News Network

by | Mar 11, 2017 | Web Gems

Our spunky LN Writers offer up funny, outrageous and crazy tidbits from around the Web.  So many Gems, so little time…

Today’s gems are a bit outrageous, to say the least. First up we have this item from Cannibal News Network (CNN’s) new show Believer, whose host, Reza Aslan, is under fire for not only featuring a group of Hindu cannibals on the show — a tiny fringe element of one hundred people, out of over one billion adherents of Hindu — but eating human brains along with them. From the Daily Mail:

[Aslan] drank an alcoholic drink from a human skull, before eating what he was told was human brain.

At one point he fell out with the Aghori guru who shouted: ‘I will cut your head off if you keep talking so much.’

The guru began eating his own faeces and then hurled it at Aslan.

Aslan quipped: ‘I feel like this may have been a mistake.’

What could have possibly given him that idea?
Naturally, the idea that he would go this far for ratings was not lost on — or appreciated by — the Hindu community or by Tulsi Gabbard, the only Hindu in Congress.  Sadly, ratings are expected to go up for the show, which airs Sunday nights on CNN.
As long as we’re discussing “ridiculous things people do,” let’s move to Pitzer College, where student Leandra Vargas, a self-described “queer person of color,” sent an email to the university student body asking for white people to pay for her spring break trip.   Vargas, sadly, was quite serious about the whole thing. From Daily Wire:
[C]alling on white allies especially [for your] support– remember that everything that [you] are/have [right now] is due to the genocide and enslavement of our [people]… yet all [I’m] asking [for] is a bit of cash to get us [through] the week. [Thanks] <3

Considering how much editing that short quote needed to make it readable by the general adult population, we’re going to suggest that Vargas skip spring break and use that time to brush up on her written communication skills.

Finally, we have this story from NBC, in which no jokes are needed — the story is the joke.  In an arson trial in Florida, the defense attorney’s pants caught on fire during his assertion that the defendant’s car — which his client was charged with setting on fire — spontaneously combusted.

Tune in tomorrow for more gems from the web!
