LN Poll Results: Gun Control and November Elections

Liberty Nation readers have weighed in with their opinions.

We asked and you answered: This week’s poll results are in. How many GOP senators will side with Dems on gun control? What’s the most significant issue in the November elections? Liberty Nation readers weighed in with their opinions.

How many GOP senators will side with Democrats on a new gun control bill?

Result:

  • Ten or more: 41%
  • Five to nine: 31%
  • Zero to four: 18%
  • None: 10%

Firearms restrictions and new gun laws have been a high priority for Democrats. With the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that took the lives of 19 children and two adults, the push to ban assault weapons and enact stricter policies is even more urgent, they claim.  While the “Protecting Our Kids Act” passed, nearly every Republican voted against it. When it goes to the Senate, it will need the support of at least ten Republicans to send it to the Oval Office.

Most of our poll respondents think at least five GOP senators will agree to a new gun control bill, and 41% think ten or more will side with the Democrats. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is leading the Senate Republicans on the issue and has been working with the Dems on a different gun reform bill, which is reported to be less strict – if both sides of the aisle can reach an agreement.

As Liberty Nation Editor-at-Large James Fite noted in a recent article, President Joe Biden’s plan includes a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines. However, should the commander-in-chief lose this battle, he said he would sign any “common sense” bill that comes across his desk, which could include raising the age to legally purchase rifles and a nationwide red flag law.

What will be the most significant issue in the November elections?

Result:

  • The economy: 68%
  • Election integrity: 18%
  • Gun control: 7%
  • Something else: 5%
  • Foreign policy: 2%

New Banner LN POll bannerSince gun control is such a hot topic right now, it might be surprising to see that it came in third place with only 7% of our survey takers choosing it as a significant issue in the upcoming November elections. Then again, with gas prices, baby formula shortages, and the ever-increasing cost of groceries affecting America’s pocketbooks, it’s no wonder that 68% of Liberty Nation poll participants think the economy will be a red-hot ticket item at the ballot box.

A recent LN poll showed that 60% of those surveyed believe the national cost of gas will be above $6 a gallon by the summer. In some places, such as Los Angeles, CA, that pain at the pump is already more than $7 per gallon. The cost to fill up the tank is, for some, triple what it was just a couple months ago. When you add that in with rent increases, exponential hikes in grocery costs, and overall cost of living hikes, it hardly comes as a shock that so many people think the economy – and the plans to improve it – will be one of the most important talking points for candidates.

But, 18% of our voters haven’t forgotten the 2020 presidential election debacle and put election integrity as another high priority. Making sure votes are counted accurately and that no funny business is going on is an important issue.

Conservatives and Republicans are not as likely to put Second Amendment restrictions at the top of the list since most would prefer to “restrict the restrictions.” So, even while most of America seems to be up in arms (pun intended) about firearms, it’s not surprising that our poll takers are more concerned about the economy and keeping the integrity of our election system.
