Just how low will the left go? That question hangs over the nation like a dense fog approaching a large city.
Two events in recent days provide a frightening answer to the question as it pertains to the increasingly lawless resistance in both the street and the academy. As the militant left ironically accuses this President and his supporters of being Fascists, they employ classic fascistic tactics in an attempt to mow down everyone and everything standing in their way.
The establishment media has implied, though not stated outright, that the recent spate of anti-semitic incidents, including the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, is the logical result of hateful rhetoric on the part of President Trump and his supporters. This must be, right?
Not exactly.
First, consider the nakedly racist views of one Juan Thompson. A former “journalist” at the leftist website The Intercept who was fired for fabricating quotes in his stories, Thompson conducted “an intense campaign of harassment against a former lover (and was) was responsible for bomb threats against the Anti-Defamation League and some Jewish centers around the country,” as reported by Townhall.com:
42% of Americans are filthy fascist appeasers and they should be taken out along with Trump. https://t.co/jmdyGCFyu8
— Juan M. Thompson (@JuanMThompson) January 29, 2017
Does this mean the entire American left is to be held accountable for the actions of this racist criminal? No, it does not. But when one considers the increasingly violent actions of radicals perpetuating the “Trump is Hitler” narrative, it is entirely legitimate to ask the same question of the left that they have asked about Trump for months: are actions like this implicitly encouraged by the leaders of your movement?
In other words, are such disgusting acts, and the rank hypocrisy they unmask, made possible by the unending denunciation of Trump by the leaders of the Democrat Party/Resistance (they are becoming increasingly indistinguishable)?
The facts of this case speak for themselves:
Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York the 31-year-old suspect, Juan Thompson, was arrested in St. Louis in connection with multiple threats against Jewish centers, including some in the New York tri-state area…the FBI complaint quotes Thompson’s purported Twitter account as saying on Feb. 24, “Know any good lawyers? Need to stop this nasty/racist #whitegirl I dated who sent a bomb threat in my name & wants me to be raped in jail.” That same Twitter account was also linked to a journalist, Juan Thompson, who wrote for online publication The Intercept from late 2014 until early 2016. In February 2016, The Intercept said Thompson fabricated quotes in his stories and created fake email accounts to impersonate people.
As if the hatred – and hypocrisy – oozing out of the left’s every pore was not sufficiently demonstrated by Mr. Thompson, we move from the street to the academy and consider the truly frightening tactics employed by leftist thugs at Middlebury College in Vermont. It is akin to the Fascist riots at UC-Berkeley last month. As reported by The American Interest:
On Thursday, hundreds of students at Middlebury College shouted down political scientist Charles Murray, forcing him to deliver his remarks in a private room via a live web stream.
While he delivered his remarks, student troublemakers pulled the building’s fire alarm multiple times. Shouting could be heard in the background throughout the live-streamed lecture and subsequent conversation with Political Science Professor Allison Stanger.
The Addison County Independent reports: As, Murray, Stanger and a college administrator left McCullough Student Center last evening following the event, they were “physically and violently confronted by a group of protestors,” according to Bill Burger, the college’s vice president for communications and marketing.
Burger said college public safety officers managed to get Stanger and Murray into the administrator’s car. “The protestors then violently set upon the car, rocking it, pounding on it, jumping on and try to prevent it from leaving campus,” he said…
“During this confrontation outside McCullough, one of the demonstrators pulled Prof. Stanger’s hair and twisted her neck,” Burger continued. “She was attended to at Porter Hospital later and (on Friday) is wearing a neck brace.”
Parents are actually willing to pay $63,917 a year to subject their children to this type of horror show? One suspects – or at least hopes – the market will respond with reductions in applications and enrollment, per what happened at the University of Missouri after a professor there called for “muscle” to forcibly remove a student journalist simply attempting to record a Black Lives Matter protest (those are never banned on campus). Enrollment dropped 25% the following year.
Notwithstanding the relative courage by the Middlebury College administration in fending off demands that the mild-mannered Murray be banned from speaking on campus, how could such a toxic atmosphere be allowed to fester in this elite bastion of liberal education? This is the same question we have asked over and over about college campuses across the nation.
To use the left’s own language, there are fewer and fewer “safe spaces” left for the sixty-two million people who had the audacity to vote for Trump, or those who simply hope he will succeed for the sake of the country.
Stay tuned, for many such acts of hatred and hypocrisy from the radical left are sure to follow.
