Often it is not what is said that is at the core of distortion, but what is left unsaid. Recent allegations of sexual misconduct by Joe Biden with former staffer Tara Reade are getting too hot to hide for some media outlets. Yet this disturbing pattern of omission persists for much of the establishment media regarding video evidence of Mr. Biden’s possible cognitive decline.
For over a month, Ms. Reade’s allegations have been circulating, but until March 25, none of the major broadcast or cable outlets were willing to give them anything more than passing reference on air. Ironically – though late to the game – it was CNN who broke the cable TV blackout on April 27. Although they did publish online stories about the Biden/Reade controversy, real airtime was non-existent up until then, according to Scott Whitlock of Newsbusters.org.
In the case of CNN, it was a video unearthed by The Intercept and given oxygen by the Media Research Center that forced them to end their blackout. According to an MRC study, “During this time, ABC, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC all invited Biden on their airwaves for interviews, but they refused to confront him even once about these allegations. Out of 77 questions, not even one asked the former Senator and Vice President about Reade’s charges.”
It appears that MRC’s releasing of this video was vital in ending the on-air blackout of the Reade story for both cable and broadcast outlets. This graph pretty much tells the story:
But Wait, There’s More
Exhibit B in the Biden blackout is the race to see who can print or broadcast the least about Joe Biden’s possible cognitive decline. Several establishment media outlets have taken up the issue of mental decline, but in doing so, they have lumped President Trump into the story. Now one can choose to disagree with Mr. Trump on anything and everything, but implying he has some sort of cognitive decline does not hold water. Another fact is that the president has not suffered a brain aneurysm. Joe Biden has been afflicted with two of them.
Under the headline, “You need to stop saying Joe Biden has dementia,” Danielle Campoamor of The Independent went so far as to argue that Joe Biden “is known as a loveable gaffe machine.” Other articles aver that “age is a poor metric on its own to determine someone’s mental capabilities.” Biden is 77 to Trump’s 73.
When one cannot retrieve the name of the Declaration of Independence and can only refer to it as “the thing,” it doesn’t take a neurologist to proclaim that something is not right. If you want to find out more about the former vice president’s brain surgeries on Google you’ll be treated with articles that claim Biden’s brain is “better now than before,” and assertions by the doctor who operated on him that the former VP is “every bit as sharp as he was 31 years ago.” That last statement – in and of itself – could be considered a frightening declaration.
One can only surmise whether the Democratic frontrunner’s campaign people have cleaned up the Google searches about Biden’s two neurological episodes. But a random survey of people under the age of 60 by Liberty Nation revealed that very few were even aware that Biden had brain surgery – not once but twice.
In trying to ignore the controversy surrounding a candidate for president, the establishment media does itself more harm than good. There are two reasons for this: The days of its sovereign power ended with the advent of the internet, and when someone intentionally tries to suppress information, they often inadvertently popularize it. If we’ve learned anything from the Watergate scandal, it is that cover-ups don’t work.
