Illegals Crime Report: Biden Promises Moratorium on Deportations

President Biden – a boon for migrant criminals?

Editor’s Note – The Illegals Crime Report looks at crimes committed in the United States at the hands of those who shouldn’t be in the country.

Week of February 21-26

The 2020 presidential campaigns are a hodgepodge of Democrats promising the American people free everything, but former Vice President Joe Biden is taking it a step further and promising freedom to illegal immigrants. Initially denied by the campaign, it has now been confirmed that the presidential hopeful is serious about a moratorium on deporting illegal immigrants for the first 100 days of his potential presidency. Advocates are giddy with the idea, despite the fact that it would allow thousands of felonious aliens to roam our neighborhoods.

ICE released its most recent Enforcement and Removal Operations report, which provides the details of arrests and deportations during fiscal year 2019. Of those aliens arrested that year, 86% had “criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.” The report went on to say that “the criminal history for this group represented 489,063 total criminal convictions and pending charges.” This “equates to an average of four criminal arrests/convictions per alien, highlighting the recidivist nature of the aliens that ICE arrests.”

Andrew R. Arthur, a former immigration judge who currently analyzes policy issues for the Center of Immigration Studies, lambasted Biden’s recent announcement, saying:

“What kind of aliens are we talking about? Well, in FY 2019, ICE ERO arrested 26,156 aliens with assault convictions, 4,658 with convictions for sex offenses, 3,407 others with sexual assault convictions, 3,581 with robbery convictions, 1,549 aliens convicted of homicide, 1,110 with kidnapping convictions, and 743 with convictions for commercialized sexual offenses. This does not include the 49,106 aliens who had been convicted of DUI, or the 47,453 with dangerous drug convictions, or the tens of thousands who were arrested but not convicted for the offenses above. Does anyone really want these criminals hanging around their neighborhoods for an arbitrary 100-day period?”

So, Biden’s moratorium would release criminal aliens such as Guatemalan national Ingrid Corzo-Armas, 49, who ICE just arrested on Feb. 17 for re-entering the U.S. illegally. Corzo-Armas had previously been convicted for kidnapping and murder and served a state prison sentence in California. Then there’s Mexican national Cruz Guillermo Barron-Nunez, a 39-year-old aggravated felon who was caught trying to cross the border in the Yuma, AZ sector illegally on Feb. 25. According to ICE, “he had been convicted and sentenced to 19 years for first-degree murder and 11 years for armed robbery.”

Arthur posed the question: “If there were a moratorium on deportations from January 20, 2021, to April 30, 2021, would that mean aliens under final orders of removal would be arrested but not removed?” He suggested that wouldn’t happen due to section 241(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act:

“ICE has 90 days to remove an alien ordered removed from the United States, or the alien can be released on supervision (subject to terms and exceptions). It would make no sense to arrest and detain removable aliens only to have to release them.”

The media does not help matters by focusing on the sensational instead of the factual. Showing children in cages sells more newspapers than informing the public that the Trump administration’s immigration control efforts are working and that, contrary to what’s being sold to the American people, there has actually been a decrease in arrests, not an increase. ICE and border patrol agents are not going around willy-nilly arresting everyone just because they crossed into the U.S. without the proper paperwork. As the report stated, “administrative arrests in the interior declined by 10 percent in FY 2019, and its arrests of convicted criminals declined by 12 percent because of its need to reallocate resources (including 350 ERO officers, 6.6 percent of the total force of 5,300) to the border.”

As Arthur put it, “Immigration affects our communities, our schools, our healthcare system, our economy, and our public safety. And Biden’s plan threatens each – especially our public safety.”

Tune in next week for more on the Illegals Crime Report.
