Lock-down in flyover country consists of preparing the ground for planting, hiking through the woods on a mushroom hunt, and patronizing local business from a distance to keep our neighbors’ lights on. It’s also a time of overloading the internet to talk about the latest pandemic numbers, who is doing what to whom in the Swamp, and letting it all hang out on the news coverage of the day. This week did not disappoint.
The Beatles, it seems, set the tone decades ago for discourse in today’s new world, with a clear depiction of many of the world’s concerns over the pandemic: “You say you’ll change the constitution
Well, you know, We all want to change your head.” Flyover folks aren’t loving the shenanigans Democrats are pulling in the disaster relief package for small business and the newly unemployed.
The outcry from the heartland began first and foremost by demanding that Democrats learn how to work and to stop investigating the president every time he scratches his nose. It was Russia, Russia, Russia, followed by Ukraine until the presumptive Democratic nominee was implicated, and now the Swamp toads and toadettes are croaking about a COVID-19 investigation. Is this all they know how to do?
The Pelosi and Schiff Show: Episode 996
Just when the nation believes the endless investigations have been eclipsed by the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has her “hold my beer” moment. Along with her minions – Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) chief amongst them – she created a new committee to investigate President Trump and the federal response to the Coronavirus outbreak in the United States.
Sigh.
It’s certainly no secret that flyover folks have little love or respect for these two people. You know this is fact when the sarcastic phrase “bless your heart” isn’t used. And that’s saying something for Middle Americans.
You could almost hear the derisive snort out of John Nolton in Grand Rapids, MI. “Yes, good idea,” he said. “Let’s investigate the impeachment of Trump instigated by people such as this specimen [Schiff] while everyone should have been focused on fighting the corona virus pandemic.”
And from another quarantined patriot, Zouren Mamba, “Call all he [Schiff] wants. Does he have a weak immune system?”
Cold. But the entire country is testy in these trying times, and commenters were cheering Mamba for speaking for the masses.
Madam Speaker found that stepping on former Speaker Newt Gingrich’s last nerve was the wrong thing to do this week as he slammed the octogenarian on a nationally syndicated radio program:
“I think Pelosi has become despicable. I think that her comment the other day comparing President Trump to Nero fiddling while Rome burned was just utterly, totally irresponsible, dishonest, and counter to what Americans need … Nancy Pelosi is an absolute negative figure dragging down the country.”
Wayne McDaniel in Waxahatchie, TX agreed with Gingrich, adding, “This woman has highlighted the desperate need for term limits to mitigate their control and self-serving agenda with our tax dollars.”
John Lennon’s Kid is Genius
Following on the heels of the House Dems launching another wild goose chase, the son of rock legend John Lennon, Sean, publicly slammed the U.S. media’s coverage of said pandemic with extreme prejudice. Lennon tweeted his rant:
“Been listening to ‘respectable’ journalists quoting CCP official numbers for months without doubt or hesitation. Calling it the Wuhan Virus but only days later telling people who say it’s from China they’re racist. The official media have lost their legitimacy.”
He may have been channeling dear old dad’s wise words: “If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow.”
Flyover folks are following virus guidelines, looking out for one another, and tongue lashing the Democrats, all the while knowing that “It’s gonna be alright.”
