When U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions began targeting leakers, the Deep State started to fight back. The last few weeks have seen an increased amount of leaks from “anonymous sources” come out of the White House, all targeted at undermining President Trump and his staff. The end game is clear – to make the Administration ungovernable and to leverage success for a 2020 candidate.
The latest leaks to come out suggest that the President was not on good terms with Sessions after he had recused himself in favor of Rod Rosenstein to deal with the Russian allegations. The leak (as reported by the New York Times) details a meeting in which the president berated and “humiliated” Sessions. It’s reported that the dressing down included this:
“Mr. Trump lobbed a volley of insults at Mr. Sessions, telling the attorney general it was his fault they were in the current situation. Mr. Trump told Mr. Sessions that choosing him to be attorney general was one of the worst decisions he had made, called him an ‘idiot,’ and said that he should resign. An emotional Mr. Sessions told the president he would resign and left the Oval Office.”
The NY Times goes on to detail all of the preceding and following events, and charts the rocky relationship between the two men. The fact that this whole saga has come out now is clearly part of an overall plot to create division in the top team.
Deep State At Work
This is the reality of having a Deep State at work. No conversation is secret, no relationship unjudged; and, of course, no opportunity squandered to spin any event into a negative portrayal. The Deep State is not a secret or shadowy organization; it is a collection of people who do not believe in democracy and the American system of government. They believe that their moral compass is vastly superior to that of the voters, and will do what they think is best regardless of mandate or public will. These are career bureaucrats who have no love for the idea of individuality.
All of the leaks coming out direct to complicit and sympathetic news agencies are from “sources close to” or “an anonymous source” which leaves a huge amount of doubt as to their veracity. In other words, this is a propaganda war against a sitting government. The idea is not to prove anything, but rather to cast doubt; and this they have achieved.
The Obama holdovers are working hard to maintain the status quo, and it is the people and democracy that suffer.
