Faced with a situation in which the head of state is a madman, a tyrant, a monster whose actions will surely result in the deaths of millions, or tens of millions, would it not be the solemn duty of every true patriot to rise up and overthrow that leader? Of course, it would: Anything less is abject cowardice. Where then is the left’s revolution? If President Donald Trump’s political enemies believe their own rhetoric, why are they not marching on Washington with guns?
America was founded upon the idea that there is a contract between the governed and those who govern. If the government abandons or abuses its duties or authority – as set forth in that contract, known as the Constitution – it is the right and the obligation of the people to bring an end to that government. This very idea is spelled out in the Declaration of Independence:
“That to secure these rights [Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness], Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, …"
Clearly, the Founding Fathers wanted to ensure everyone got the point. After all, this document laid out why Americans chose to fight for their independence from the British crown. For this reason, the authors of the Declaration reiterated their firm belief that ordinary people should take only so much crap from their rulers before they do something about it:
“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
All Talk and No Action?
Many Democratic politicians, in concert with the braying hordes of the progressive/socialist left, have been saying for three years that the current head of state is a racist, a Nazi, and a white supremacist. Of late, the president’s transgressions apparently have grown even more despicable. He is now even worse than a Nazi, they claim. He is worse than a racist.
What does that say about those who make up the modern American left? If they honestly believe their own claims, then the man who currently leads the country is so devoid of morality and human decency that armed revolution would certainly be justified. At the very least, a nationwide campaign of civil disobedience would be called for: Daily marches, demonstrations, and riots should be undertaken by the millions of Americans across the country who fear the devastation this president is about to bring down upon their heads.
CNN Redefines Crazy
On Aug. 25, Allen Frances, a psychiatrist who used to be the chair of psychiatry at North Carolina’s Duke University, appeared on Reliable Sources, a CNN puppet show hosted by Brian Stelter. It may have been the most ridiculous block of any show Stelter has hosted, which is quite an achievement. To Frances’ credit, he does appear to agree with the argument already laid out in this article: “[C]alling Trump crazy hides the fact that we’re crazy for having elected him,” the psychiatrist said, “and even crazier for allowing his crazy policies to persist.” (On a side note, it is at once interesting, amusing, and somewhat disconcerting that a psychiatrist so loves using the word “crazy,” but that is an entirely different discussion.)
Frances went on (and on): “Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were in the last century.” Really? Frances did not say “could be as destructive” or “may turn out to be as destructive.” He stated his case as if Trump had already proved himself as destructive as any of the three most murderous tyrants of the 20th century.
“[Trump] may be responsible for many more million deaths [sic] than they were,” Frances continued. One can only assume that Trump’s failure to address climate change will lead to that many deaths (more than 200 million, in fact, to outdo the aforementioned dictators). However, as Liberty Nation’s Mark Angelides points out, the notion that Trump should be held personally responsible for the effects of climate change completely fails to stand up to rational examination.
The only reasonable conclusion to be drawn from Frances’s CNN appearance is that the psychiatrist needs to see a psychiatrist. Nevertheless, this fool’s hysterical rant highlights the big questions: If leftists truly believe that Trump is as evil and as destructive as they say, then why are they doing nothing more than angrily tweeting about it? Where is their passion? Where is their patriotism? More than that, where is their desire for self-preservation? Why are they not in the streets every day, demanding that Trump leave office or that the military remove him? Why are they not taking up arms to overthrow him?
In the face of such savage tyranny, why have progressives decided that the best course of action is to wait until Joe Biden remembers what state he’s in? In short, it can only be true that either these leftists know they are full of it or that they lack the intestinal fortitude to do what must be done. It is not enough for them to claim that they are waiting to vote Trump out of office in 2020 since that is by no means a sure thing.
Believing that America – the most powerful country on Earth – is being led by a murderous, racist psychopath and doing nothing about it other than whine and complain makes these left-wingers every bit as morally reprehensible as the man they claim Donald Trump to be.
