A question one might ask this election season is: Who is more afraid of former Vice President Joe Biden? The Republicans, or the Democrats? Recently, Biden, the Godfather of Gaffe, was again made the subject of ridicule and criticism after he made yet another error during a public appearance.
Now, anyone paying attention to American politics over the last ten years understands that the establishment media routinely runs interference for its preferred left-leaning candidates. So, what does the fact that several progressive news outlets are taking this opportunity to slam the former vice president say? And will Biden soon face the end of his days as top Democrat in an ideologically divided primary race?
Biden’s Bad Sound Bites
The campaign trail recently took Biden to New Hampshire where he gave a speech in which he melted down in his latest rhetorical Chernobyl. It happened when he discussed the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. “My two political heroes were Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy,” he told the crowd. “My senior semester, they were both shot and killed. Imagine what would have happened if, God forbid, Barack Obama had been assassinated after becoming the de facto nominee. What would have happened in America?”
Well, that was rather macabre, wasn’t it? But this is par for the course for Biden, the Pharaoh of Flub, who has a history of similar gaffes. In the same speech, the former vice president brought up the National Guard shooting of anti-Vietnam protesters in 1970.“You had over 40 kids shot at Kent State on a beautiful lawn by the National Guard,” he said.
Perhaps someone should have told the Sultan of Stumble that only four students were killed during that particular incident, while nine were injured.
Earlier in the week, Biden gave an address on health care in which he did his best to talk the audience out of voting for him. “If you’re not satisfied, you have another option, high-quality options,” he explained. “We’ll make sure it’s not quality, and we’ll make sure it’s only affordable, quality that’s affordable.”
Of course, nobody can forget his misstatements when speaking about wealthy vs. poor students. While the words might seem as if they were taken from discourse years in the past, they were actually spoken just a couple of weeks ago. During a speech he gave for the Asian & Latino Coalition PAC, he stated that “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” Despite correcting himself, the damage was done.
Putting Joe Out to Pasture?
After Biden’s most recent blunder, left-leaning journalists and media outlets pounced. Jamil Smith, a senior writer at Rolling Stone, tweeted: “Invoking the possibility of Obama’s assassination when white-supremacist violence is rising seems reckless, at the very least. Even if there was a more salient point, I can’t understand why any candidate—let alone Obama’s own vice president—would say this.”
The Daily Beast and other left-wing news outlets ran pieces critical of Biden’s comments. But the question is: Why? Doesn’t the establishment media typically protect its own from potential backlash due to insensitive remarks? It seems the press has become almost as reactionary to Biden’s comments as it is to President Donald Trump’s.
Perhaps the left is attempting to derail Biden’s campaign. It seems that constant attacks on the former vice president, including a fixation on his uncomfortable history with women, are designed to pave the way for a preferred candidate. For the hard left wing of the Democratic Party, Biden is too moderate, white, straight, and male, which means he must move over and let a member of the intersectional club take over. But he doesn’t seem interested. Despite his gaffes and the resultant attacks from his opponents, he remains the Democratic frontrunner. How long will it last?
