Former President Donald Trump was supposed to go on trial on May 20 for allegedly mishandling classified documents when he left the White House. On May 7, US District Court Judge Aileen Cannon postponed the trial date indefinitely. Cannon cited “the myriad and interconnected pretrial and CIPA issues remaining and forthcoming,” and wrote, “The Court therefore vacates the current May 20, 2024, trial date (and associated calendar call{, to be reset by separate order following resolution of the matters before the Court, consistent with Defendants’ right to due process and the public’s interest in the fair and efficient administration of justice.”

Cannon’s written order establishes a new set of pretrial deadlines that begin on May 8 and run through July 22, 2024. A new trial date will not be set until after those matters are resolved.
