Count Me Out, Says Gavin Newsom

The California governor takes on the role of cheerleader.

The presidential race is shaping up to be a rematch of 2020, with the real possibility of former President Donald Trump and the current man in the Oval Office, Joe Biden, going head-to-head once again. Of course, Biden must officially throw his hat in the ring, which he claims to be considering and “discussing with his family” but won’t announce formally until the calendar turns to 2023. On the other side, Trump must secure the Republican nomination. However, things are starting to clear a bit over on the democratic side as it appears California’s golden boy, Gavin Newsom, won’t challenge the incumbent president for the nomination this time around.

This news comes courtesy of Politico author Jonathan Martin who wrote about a conversation he overheard between Biden and Newsom on election night. Newsom, Martin wrote, could be heard congratulating the man from Scranton, saying, “I’m all in; put me in, coach. We have your back.” Martin also asserts the California governor “wants the word to go forth: He’s not going to challenge President Biden for the Democratic nomination in 2024.”

Uber-Dem Gavin Newsom

With JFK looks and a Hollywood smile, the Golden State golden boy beat back a recall challenge with relative ease and then won a decisive victory for a second term on Nov. 8. Newsom is a loud and proud cheerleader for the Democrats. He loves to tussle and play the game of politics on offense as much as possible. He pokes and prods until someone takes the bait and begins to spar.

This year Newsom chose to pick a fight with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), claiming that California is the real freedom state. DeSantis couldn’t resist a tart response, saying Newsom was chowing down at the chic French Laundry restaurant during the pandemic while keeping Californians locked inside their homes and “treating them like peasants,” according to the New York Post. Along the way, the California governor managed to peeve Christians by using Scripture to promote abortion on billboards across the Sunshine state. One could consider Newsom the skunk at the garden party – a depiction he is likely to relish.

Heeeeeere’s Gavin!

A DeSantis-Newsom match-up appeared to be materializing, and perhaps that will eventually happen, but it’s looking less and less likely for 2024. California’s man in Sacramento is playing the role of cheerleader—the uber-Dem ready and willing to go to the mat for his commander-in-chief. “I hope he runs; I’ll enthusiastically support him,” Newsom asserted.

Newsom appears enthusiastic about many things. He’s so excited about what the Democrat Party has to offer he’s been hammering away at them. As Liberty Nation previously reported via MSN, “A day after Politico reported the contents of a leaked Supreme Court draft that would overturn Roe, Newsom slammed Democrats for not taking decisive action to codify access to abortion with a biting exclamation: ‘Where the hell is my party? Where’s the Democratic Party?'” Brash, aggressive, with more than a dash of arrogance,  Newsom is adored by progressives mostly because he not only believes the party’s message; he sells the hell out of it.

The governor is wont to cast himself as the hero in every movie and believes his party loyalty will be rewarded in due time. He may also want to leave the party infighting to the GOP this year. Another possibility is that Newsom does not want to go toe-to-toe with Donald Trump, should he get the nod from Republicans once again. Either way, the popular Cali governor emphatically states he will not run for president in 2024: “… even if Biden doesn’t run — ‘the answer is no.'”

Whatever his reasoning, you can bet the California governor has calculated this is his best play for 2024. Gavin Newsom will only be 61 years old in 2028. But even the best-made political plans can be tricky little devils – one moment, you are the fair-haired boy, and the next, it’s Gavin who? There are a host of presidential wannabes who can attest to that.
