Oakland, California’s mayor, Libby Schaaf, thought it prudent to warn illegal immigrants about a possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid over the weekend. Not only did the Democratic mayor send out a memo to warn everyone, but she also tweeted it.

Deserving families?
Let’s take a closer look at a couple of those comments Schaaf made:
“My priority is for the well-being and safety of all residents – particularly our most vulnerable,” and “I know that Oakland is a city of law-abiding immigrants and families who deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation.”
Law-abiding? According to Neighborhood Scout, the city of Oakland scores a 1 out of 100 regarding safety – with 100 being the highest and best score. According to the website, the city is “safer than 1% of U.S. cities.”
A section of the website tells residents their chances of becoming a victim of a violent crime is one in 69. Now, in comparison, the chances of the same in the entire state is one in 225. The Public Policy Institute of California released a study on the illegal immigrant numbers in the state:
California has more unauthorized immigrants than any other state, about 2.6 million of the nation’s 11 million; they make up 7 percent of the total California population and 9 percent of the state’s labor force.
According to the study, Alameda County, which is where Oakland is located, accounts for 124,000 illegal immigrants alone. We know they are not all law-abiding citizens. Instead, the very fact that they are here illegally is a crime, and therefore they are in reality, criminals.
Sanctuary does not equal safety
Because California is a sanctuary state, law enforcement is prohibited from aiding the federal government in any illegal immigration practices. Schaaf’s memo was an all-out alert for criminals everywhere, letting them know ICE was on the move. Would this mayor who claims to care about her constituents (more likely she cares more about her upcoming reelection campaign) go to the same trouble to warn drug pushers, murderers and rapists that authorities would be in the area looking for them? Of course not.
She states in the memo that immigrants and families deserve to live free from the threat of arrest and deportation. If they are not committing a crime, why would they fear arrest or deportation? Does she not understand the hypocrisy of her statements?
“I believe it is my duty and moral obligation as mayor to give those families fair warning when that threat appears imminent,” Schaaf said. So, it is okay to give fair warning to criminals? And if so, why only those who are here illegally?
She has said she is willing to go to jail to support protecting illegal immigrants. Just by saying so, she is aware she is, herself, committing a crime – or at least teetering on the thin balancing beam of legalities. Apparently, in California, lawmakers can choose which laws should be obeyed and which can be broken.
Values?
Fox News reported Schaaf’s comments about protecting families:
“It is no surprise that the bully in chief is continuing to try to intimidate our most vulnerable residents,” Schaaf said at the time. “We’re very clear that our values are to protect all of our residents regardless of where we come from. We want to protect families, not tear them apart.”
Hey Schaaf – it’s not where someone came from that is at the root of this, it’s that they refuse to come here legally, or apply for legal status once here. Protecting families is all great and noble, but what about families of victims of crimes from illegals? How are you protecting them? You, know, the tax payers?
As Liberty Nation has already reported, President Donald Trump has mentioned the possibility of pulling ICE out of California. Oakland is already one of the least safe cities in the nation. With 124,000 illegal immigrants in the city right now, how many more will flock to the Bay Area once the threat of ICE is removed? And how many of those will be repeat criminals? And how, Schaaf, will you protect and defend your citizens then?
