Brexit Betrayal: The UK in Another Fine Mess

The UK is spiraling with no hope of stability.

As the official deadline for Britain to leave the European Union has come and gone without a hint of Brexit taking place, Parliament seems determined to override the will of the people and sound the death knell of freedom. Each week, Liberty Nation shines a light on the dark rumblings in the British Isles that portend the betrayal of Brexit.

With so much happening in the U.K this week, Liberty Nation will present a series of short snapshots to give you just a taste of what life is like in a nation under siege from within.

Send in the Clowns

Prime Minister Theresa May is officially stepping down; with this comes the heady prospect of a Conservative Party leadership election and the installing of a new PM. Unlike the U.S., the U.K. does not vote for a PM; it votes for a regional Member of Parliament in each of the 650 constituencies. The party that can form a majority (most often the party that wins the most seats, yet coalition governments are possible), gets the first shot at forming a government.

What this means is that there is no need for a general election to get a new PM. There will first be a leadership election from among the Members of Parliament; at present, there are ten contenders who have thrown their hats in the ring.

Once this pack is whittled down to just two through a series of knock-out votes within the party, it will be put to the 165,000 Conservative Party members around the country. The winner of this vote will become the new Prime Minister.

In the case of these ten, it seems that where they stand on Brexit will determine if they get a shot at the title. Rory Stewart, Secretary of State for International Development, is campaigning from the position that there is no possibility of leaving the EU by the October 31 deadline. Boris Johnson, former Mayor of London, former Foreign Secretary and the present frontrunner, is campaigning that, come hell or high water, Britain leaves the EU deal or no deal when the deadline falls due.

Will the Tory Party save themselves from electoral suicide by delivering Brexit? Or will the EU Remaniacs win through and fail to present the electorate with BRINO (Brexit in Name Only).

Zero Carbon Lunacy

Despite not being able to deliver Brexit in the three years since the referendum, it appears that Parliament can work together when it has a common goal. PM May, as one of her last acts, is pushing legislation that will commit the U.K to becoming a Zero Carbon Emission nation by 2050.

Chancellor Philip Hammond

From out of the blue, this legislation will likely pass without major dissent and become law. Yet it is transformative in such a way that it will impact every individual, every company, and every aspect of life in the United Kingdom. The Chancellor, Philip Hammond, has stated that this will cost the nation over one trillion pounds – this is the same Philip Hammond who warned that Brexit couldn’t happen because it would cost the economy far too much (at a fraction of the price).

Even in this, the government is committing not so much an act of moral guidance, but rather the grandest and most expensive virtue signal in history. You see, this legislation is for the country to become a “Net” zero carbon emission country. What this means in practice is that folks can still produce carbon, but they have to offset it in some way.

The most likely result is that British manufacturing moves overseas, destroying homegrown industry, wrecking the economy, creating mass-unemployment, and doing nothing at all to reduce the global carbon level. In fact, due to manufacturing processes overseas being far less environmentally friendly than in the U.K., it will more likely increase global carbon emissions. And guess who has to pay for it?

Red Flag Propaganda

Even the United Kingdom is not safe from propaganda regarding gun laws in the United States.  One of the big topics in the news is that Red Flag regulations are being adopted in Colorado. The manner in which it is being presented is that of “but if it saves a life?”

The Draconian British laws regarding firearms have trickled down to create a society where even defending yourself with a stick, a knife, or your hands, from an attack can land you in prison. The BBC is running almost hourly reports across the radio and news networks presenting the idea that Red Flag laws will help save the lives of law enforcement officers and the mentally unstable, yet they fail to present the counterargument.

Britain is a nation on the brink. The people are ignored when they vote, they are coerced like children, and they are treated as little more than tax-generators for the latest left-leaning vanity projects. Liberty is eroded, and rights are demolished wholesale. Is the U.S. the final bastion of freedom in the world?
