Charlie Kirk was assassinated in Utah on Wednesday, Sept. 10. The Turning Point USA founder was shot during an event at Utah Valley University. Charlie was a Christian whose career focused on bridging the gap between left and right by encouraging dialogue on college campuses across America.
Kirk was hit by a single shot from a rifle. The shooter was on the roof of one of the campus buildings. During a law enforcement press briefing, it was revealed that a man arrested right after the shooting was later determined not to be involved in the shooting. Later in the afternoon FBI Director Kash Patel posted to X, "The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with @fbi. We will provide updates when able."
Hours later, Patel posted an update on X. The individual they had in custody had been released after questioning.
President Trump reacted to the news in a social media post: "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
Charlie Kirk, murdered at 31, leaves behind a wife and two young children.
