In an interview with Fox News’ Chris Wallace on September 26, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) said of Joe Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, “They are in dereliction of duty.” Abbott was referring to what is now a complete failure to make even a token effort to secure the southern border of the United States. It appears that Mr. Biden has no intention of stemming the tide of migrants entering the U.S. illegally on a weekly, if not daily, basis. What has also become apparent is that the executive branch considers any objections American citizens and lawful residents have to this open border policy irrelevant.
Gov. Abbott made his views very clear, telling Wallace:
“The United States Constitution itself requires that the president and the federal government secure the sovereignty of the United States of America including the states in the United States of America. And the Biden administration has abandoned any pretence of securing the sovereignty of either Texas or the United States…”
Border? What Border?
That one phrase “abandoned any pretence” hit – or perhaps whipped – the nail on the head. One is almost tempted to believe, at this point, that the Biden strategy is to force Americans to understand this is the new normal; that the southern border no longer exists and the continued influx of thousands of migrants should be accepted.
Before Wallace spoke with Abbott, he interviewed Mayorkas, who sounded a lot like some of history’s most famous propagandists; merely regurgitating prepared phrases and statements that bear no relation to real-world events. The secretary was almost nonchalant in his attitude toward this humanitarian, economic, and social catastrophe.
When asked how many of the Haitian migrants who recently gathered in Del Rio, TX had been released, Mayorkas said, “Approximately, I think it’s about ten thousand or so. Twelve thousand.” He added that number “could be even higher.” About 10,000 “or so” – or maybe 12,000. Perhaps more than that. Given the circumstances and the politics involved, one would have to assume the real number is far, far higher – and that Mayorkas has absolutely no idea what it is.
The head of the Department of Homeland Security – one of the officials with the most responsibility to keep Americans safe and American assets and infrastructure secure – may as well have shrugged his shoulders and asked his host, “who cares?”
Apparently, and with nobody hearing about it, the legislative branch of the federal government passed a bill that says no immigration controls should be effectively enforced. “What we do is we follow the law as Congress has passed it,” Mayorkas told Wallace. And so the interview continued in that vein; the secretary making empty statements in response to Wallace’s half-hearted questions. Regarding those illegal aliens who would not show up for hearings – and the Justice Department concedes that about 44% of them do not – the secretary said, “We have enforcement guidelines in place that provide the individuals who are recent border crossers who do not show up for their hearings are enforcement priorities and will be removed.”
Just Keep Lying Until People Accept It
Again, this statement is patently untrue, as evidenced by the fact that at least 11 million illegal immigrants currently reside in the U.S. and most informed observers think that estimate is far too low. A few million of them, at least, likely have been in the country for many years and had court appearances at which they never presented themselves. Describing them as “enforcement priorities” is laughable.
It is hard to dispute that the Biden administration simply does not care how many people cross the border, where they come from, whether they have COVID, whether they have been vaccinated, how long they intend to remain in the U.S. or what they plan to do. It is also tough to dismiss the idea that Biden really does not give a damn whether Americans like it or not.
It might seem incredible to think the president and his administration are literally expecting the American people to shrug and eventually accept this perpetual tide as normal. Then again, the majority of Americans accepted home confinement as normal, then they accepted masks and now they are close to accepting forced vaccination. Perhaps all of those measures were tests to see just how much people would accept as “normal” – and now those in charge are confident they can do absolutely anything.
