Biden Cites Hate-Fueled Violence and Beats the Cultural War Drum

It’s a full-scale attack on the left’s political foes.

Joe Biden’s Sept. 15 address to the “United We Stand” summit hosted by the White House appeared to be a continuation of the worrying trend being followed by an administration that has perhaps already conceded defeat – if not publicly – on a range of issues such as foreign relations, illegal immigration, COVID-19 response, and the economy. Unity was the stated purpose of the mini-conference, but it soon became evident this was a uniting of only left-leaning activist organizations against what the White House is now describing as hate-fueled violence.

Mr. Biden gave a lackluster speech after initially appearing to have a moment’s trouble finding the stage. There was no mention of MAGA Republicans but plenty of references to white supremacists. Of course, that label has become, for left-wingers, a catch-all term that applies to virtually all American conservatives, and so the idea that this summit aimed for real unity is laughable. The attendees clearly believe they share a common enemy, and that enemy – in reality – is everyone who does not buy into the “woke” leftist agenda. It was, in essence, a social justice summit, and Biden’s half-hearted attempts to assert that most Americans are on board with its goals did nothing to give the gathering a veneer of bipartisanship or political objectivity.

In his railing against hate-fueled violence, Biden listed several incidents that appear to fit the narrative of white supremacist mobs roaming the country, intent on slaughtering all non-whites and non-Christians. He was more than a little creative with the truth, at times, citing attacks on Asians, though there is no evidence that so-called white supremacists are any more guilty than left-wingers of targeting Asians. In fact, most of the violent assaults against people of Chinese or southeast Asian origin have occurred in New York and other heavily Democrat cities.

A Very Partisan Definition of Hate-Fueled Violence

Darrell Brooks, the black man who killed six people last year when he rammed an SUV through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, WI, was never mentioned – nor was the attempted mass murder of Republican congressmen at a baseball practice in 2017. The very open and public calls for the indiscriminate killing of police officers by Black Lives Matter activists did not come up, and neither did the recent fire bombings and vandalization of at least 18 pregnancy clinics by the Antifa-affiliated radical pro-abortion group, Jane’s Revenge. Every one of these cases would obviously fit within the category of hate-fueled violence but they were of no concern to the summit attendees or Mr. Biden.

Maybe even more concerning were the chief executive’s hints about what he has in store for the nation, including an apparent plan to press the younger generations into government service under the banner of “equity.” A Biden Youth, one might even call it. The mobilizing of young people to promote or enforce central government policy carries with it some rather disturbing echoes of parts of human history no one should be in a hurry to repeat. Describing a “whole of government approach” – always a scary term for lovers of liberty – to combating hate-fueled violence, Biden said:

I’m calling for a new era of national service to organizations like AmeriCorps to foster stronger communities and bridge divides in our society. And I’m calling on Congress to do its part, raise the living allowance for national service positions to the equivalent of $15 an hour.”

He also alluded to a ratcheting up of government-driven social media censorship.

New banner Perpective 2So, what is the real intent behind the White House’s recent obsession with hate-fueled violence and political violence? It seems to be all a grand distraction from the many other growing problems facing Americans – with the added benefit, presumably, of scaring voters into giving congressional Democrats another two years of majority power. And then, obviously, there’s the possibility of convincing the nation that former President Donald Trump is ultimately the driving force behind all this hate-fueled violence.

Rather than making any sincere attempt to bring together an increasingly fractured country, Biden has entirely thrown in his lot with the extreme left, counting on its inquisition-like fanaticism to carry him and his party through to victory in November and beyond. Most reasonable and realistic political observers would probably caution him against such false hope.
